Vibration

Post by GustiX »

My Starion seems to vibrate a bit more than one could consider normal.
When I am driving at over 90km/h it gets very noticeable.

I just had my tires/wheels balanced so it's not them. Any suggestions
on what might be causing this?

Cheers
Agust

Perhaps the balancing and alignment wasnt done right..
maybe try a suspension specialist,, get them to check everything is right,

if you want to start eliminating on the cheap, jack up the rear wheels (CAREFULY DAMMIT!) and take it up to 90, if it still happens you have just eliminated 2 wheels, if it doesnt, theres your problem.

Wow.... up to 90 while jacked up. Better hope the car holds still :)

There is one thing that I was wondering. When I drive real slow on a smooth road (I mean slow like 5 km/h) I can feel from the left rear wheel once every round the tire goes like a small lump, like I am driving over a small pebble or something. This seems to happen once for each round the tire goes and only from the left rear side. It is pretty hard to describe this exactly, but it's like driving over a small pebble on the road or a small hole. Can this be an indication that the joints are bad or maybe the bearings?

Have a close look at the tyres and make sure there are no bumps or blisters in them first.

Then have a quick squiz at the rubber boots on your CV joints and make sure there are no splits in them. If you do have a split, dirt may have got in there (this will turn the grease in the joints into grinding paste!). If this is the case, take the wheels off, whip out the half-shaft(s) with the split and take it to a CV joint place.
