gearbox swap underway
well the evil auto is out.
the manual goes in tomorrow. have tried a test fit, minus flywheel, clutch etc and it fits easy. all bolt holes, etc are there.
any one got all the trque spec for pressure plate to fly wheel, flywheel, bellhousing etc?
i havent taken any photos of anything, figuring you probably wanna see stuff like the technical bits of making it all work, but if theres anything you wanna see just holla out
(wtf!? just holla out? - i must be tired and drunk)

dont you worry.NXTIME wrote:Chuck that auto as far far away as you can get...
i might drop it off something very high first, followed by blowing it up with oxyacetelene gas, and then a bit of gas-axing to finish.

check to see if your starion has two set of holes behind the ones that mount the auto. if it does, your in luck. it means (usually) that the car has the manual tunnel.
if it is then basically its is remove the auto, and put in a manual. straigtforward stuff
i have taken some pictures i will post up after its all done

yeah you need the manual tail shaft
manual on top
auto bottom
edit: wear safety boots too, the torque converter hurts when you drop it on your foot

Probably should have done that with my housemate's 4cyl Torana engine rather than er.. fitting it into the wheelie bin :P (it was funny watching the garbage truck trying to pick it up)Take the auto to scrap metal. Thats where all my unwanted starion bits go. You can get a decent amount of piss-money
On the auto/manual conversion - don't forget the spigot bearing.

its all done.
woop de do
took it around the block at 10:00 tonight. everything works
still about 10 things to do such as:
connect reverse lights properly
brace clutch pedal so its not just using the master cylinder bolts to hold it in
etc
etc
etc
but its all done yayayayayayayayay
i laughed like a giddy idiot when it was done.
it was a really easy swap too, i would highly reccomend it as a project for anyone. good way to learn how your staz works
hcca - the spigot is the one that fits inside the flywheel? yeah i didnt forget it.
