split pulse? how does that go? my brother has one on his silv, but the prob it there is no wastegate on the 1st scroll, only the 2nd. the bloddy thing just boosts and boosts and boosts, about 20psi be4 it starts to settle down.

it provides a more even balance of pressure on the exhaust wheels blades, instead of 1,3 hit, then 2,4 hit. more like 1, hit, 3, hit,2 hit, 4 hit... sorta like that

 ............................ nup, don’t get it.
my brother uses a split pulse turbo, how does just the exhaust make a normal turbs split? or do you use a s/p turbo? on our one it has 2 totally separate exhaust scrolls, 1 and 3 into 1 and 2 and 4 into the other. works better than a dream, sort of. while at idle with the bonnet up you can pull the throttle cable till it gets to 1500rpm then let go and the bov goes off, the boost gauge reads 6psi, when under load the boost comes on about 1300rpm, by 2500rpm its at 15psi, by 4000rpm its at 20psi 4500rpm goes to 25psi, its at this point the gauge just starts to bounce off the stopper pin, the poor old N/A comp SR20 starts to misfire wildly, the pinging sounds like a automatic gun fight in the engine. the bov doesn’t know what to do with itself, as the worthless POS seems to get stuck open but the boost still wont go down. all this buy the way runs on about 3deg BTDC, needless to say the car can barely idle. so we drilled a big hole in the webbing to let the far scroll see the waste gate. now things start to boogie at 1500rpm or so, but by 4500rpm it still does the same thing. doesn’t take long for the exhaust gaskets to blow out and the extractors literally fall apart at the welds.... OTHER than that, works great. anyway, spit pulse. what’s the deal? :D

A split pulse exhaust manifold has a dividing wall in the exhaust outlet. Basically it stops exhaust gasses from cylinders 1 & 2 from going up the the manifold to cylinders 3 & 4. And vice versa of course.

Thats it.

ahhh, so that’s what all the bits do in my std vr4 cast-iron manifold.
