You will need to cut the boot floor pan to get at the fuel pump properly.
Get some good quality tin snips and cut about 3-4 inches further up from the existing access cover.

Cut carefully, remember there are fuel lines and wiring under there and try and keep to roughly the same rounded shape.

The fuel pump is secured with 2 screws into the tank and a big lock nut onto the fuel line if I remember rightly. There should be very little fuel leakage from the pump/line but probably a good idea to get an absorbant rag/cloth under the nut if you can to minimise any residue. The pump just lifts out of the tank.

Getting the thing off is easy enough, re-tightening the nut when putting it back together is a little harder and needs a good "nip" up to seal it.

Finally make sure you have bought a piece of tin to make a new cover for the access point. Get this from Bunnings or similar before you start.

Wait!

You can change out the fuel pump quite easily, without slicing up your floor or dropping the fuel tank. See my post (6th one down, I think) in this thread:

I'd advise you follow JPC's advice, although Cookie's looks well, but if there's no need...
I never got this option, take a look at one of the MANY things I need to fix from the previous idiot owner!:x

Because the fuel pump doesn't sit directly under the hole. It sits further up.

Yeah, it's a bastard but you can still get it out.
