At a guess I would say that is the ABS module as you have a RHD car, the brake booster, etc would be on the right hand side.

It looks like its some sort of solenoid, its got 2 wires connected to it,and 2 wires to the brake fluid res level.i have a feeling it controls vacume,or some sort of vacume operation.

I'd bet ABS. Do a search on Starquest.com and look for it. Aus cars didn't come with ABS so we won't be a lot of help if you want to remove it. BTW ABS only works on the rear wheels in a starion.

That's the ABS unit for the rear brakes. ABS is ONLY on the rear. By bypassing one pipe you can throw all that away which is what I have done on my widebody. There is an ABS computer in the back next to the spare wheel.
Man that thing weighs a ton.

However maybe it's a good thing to keep for Iceland with snow and ice?

Yep definately the "Modulator" like MrB1 said, its the ABS (Or however we should call it, as it somehow never functions the same :? ).

For left hand driven cars it's on the right side. Same as in my cars.

In one starion i had it suddently failed and the whole braking system was affected.

I reccon it's more dangerous then useful... IMHO

Ya gotta trust someone called Honest Jim :D

Specially if he were to own and run a business called "Good Fortune Motors" or something.

Still I'm sticking with the ABS line.
