i know very little about making cf, but i believe you can buy it in sheets and then bend or mould it from there instead of going the resin way. if this is the case theres a good chance thats why the vent is seperate

Is this completley carbon fiber or is it a fiberglass frame which is Carbon fiber Covered (extremly common)?
Usually the cheaper ones are just fiberglass moulds which have been covered in carbon fiber.
This would be a great way to reduce front end weight, which effectivly increases weight shift to rear as the JA bonnet weighs in at 15Kg and a Flat bonnet weighs in at about 13Kg
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

Judging by the posts on their forum, this one is a complete CF composition, not a combination of fibre and CF which is cheaper and more common (but will end up with a heavier finished product).

The weights that they were listing were around the 19lbs mark for the CF bonnet, and 33-38lbs (bit of confusion there it seems) for the standard JA bonnet according to them. So its a fair whack lighter.

Carbon comes on a roll, and its not real expensive either. But you need a bloody good mould to make it look good. It only gets expensive once you need to autoclave it, but i doubt we will ever need anything like that for our Starions. If someone wants to make a mould i will get the carbon.

not unless you were looking at getting it made locally - and then everyone would have to agree.. it took the US over 6 months to get to the current stage.

I am experienced in carbon use and autoclave operation. I would say 2 months and lots of money. Anyone want to fund it?

I got quoted 3k for a 1-off when I looked into it a while back.. the china prices aren't all that dear..
I suppose it would depend on how many ppl would be willing to put cash up and how much u needed.

Thats a fair whack Tom. I have seen some of the Chinese ones and some do look good, but some look real bad too. It's always the shipping that kills us here though. We need to get a contact in that area otherwise we may as well undertake it ourselves.

Im sure it would be much easier to make flat styled ones, as theres be no mucking around with the scoop.

I just always loved that design. It is like an evo one, but gives it a bit more. They already make these style bonnets for other cars, maybe we can get a price on this, if people are interested.
