Well I've owned 3 Japanese Starions, all had clutch fans. 2 are 2L turbo, the other was a 2L Turbo with Intercooler. They also have the smaller TC05-12 turbo, which is not watercooled. So I'm not sure what you saw in Japan, but the mass market JDM Starions definately didn't have electric fans :) I'm guessing they were either conversion or special editions or perhaps there was a Turbo/Cooling upgrade option box maybe?

The EX is the first Starion I've owned that had the electric fans.

Sorry , that was a typo !
In any case , all the Starions I saw in Japan had Thermos except some of the 2.6 s . Although in hindsight , some of the Non Turbo ones and the Autos may have had clutch fans but definately not 2L Turbos .

Every pre 1986 jap import starion ive seen in NZ has a clutch fan equiped.
