how many litres of paint does it rought take to paint a car? not for mine, am thinking about doing my gf's celica.. :P backyard 1st-time job.. :D

It took about 2 litres to do two coats of my bathroom. Let you know how much we use in the boys room, it's about half way finished.

Depends on how shit a job you do and how much thinners you put in it but 4Litre's is what it takes to do most cars.

do you need more paint as the nipper gets older and bigger. Also, bathrooms are deceptive, variables include the amount of tiling, vanity basins and shower recesses. Flat wall painting gives a much better base to measure from. Roller or brush used? ......

4 litres is pretty much the standard for a car. And 1-2 of primer.

If it's a first time job, find an old bonnet or something to practice on, and make sure you can get high up to paint the roof

working ina panel shop, i can tell you that 4 litres is enough. I guess that the paint you will be using is acrylic? If you were using 2pak then you would have 2 litres of colour, then the activator/hardener, and a clear. using these it stretches the paint out more, but you do need a paint booth.
I've got my car at work started to get it ready to paint. the front is stripped and the dorky door moulds are off.
It's going to be painted a heavy red metallic with a gold pearl over the top, maybe a three layer! depends on how the body comes up. I've mentioned in another thread a carbon fibre bonnet. I think that this colour and the bonnet would look awesome. still can't decide on rims. Maybe a set of deep dish gold V4 simmons... hmmmmm...

7 litres? is that body colour? coz if you are using acrylic that should be plenty, i would imagine. Though i'm painting my car in 2k and i think that there is 5 litres of colour and then the same amount in activator and then there's the clear and pearl. so i guess that would be around the 7 litres as well. it's a big job to paint a car in and out, i have done a few backyarders in my time. many... many hours. But now i'm a qualified detailer and i know how to get the most out of a paint job, alot of the guy's are getting me to do their cars after they have been painted.
best of luck on the car and i hope that you dont get stressed out over it. even if you do get a little bit of grit and stuff in the paint you can generally rub it down a little with a wet 1500 rub and then buff it up with rubbing compound and then a glaze, wash the car and then give it a good polish. though this should be done a few days if not a week or 2 to let the paint harden up properly. i hope that some of this has helped and not just me waffling on.

A mate of mine just painted his vb commodore with 2pac, including inside the door jams, and he still has some left after 2 litres.
this isn't including hardener etc..

4 litres of paint is heaps this works out to over 8 litres with thinners plus 2 litres of primer
