toysrus, I will say this once more, and once more only. Quit now and don't bother with the T88 unless you are building a drag rotary, Supra or Skyline.
A 2L SOHC will need to rev to 10,000rpm to get the T88 boosting.

NXTIME, I know that, which is why I'm making it 2.4L, plus this is a 12v so it is not easy to compare the difference between the 8 and 12 though it still is a SOHC.NXTIME wrote:toysrus, I will say this once more, and once more only. 10,000 pm is pretty spot on but you have to remember that this figure your quoting is for a standard engine, I know that a stock 2.0L mr2 boosts a T66 (about 15% less cfm) from 4000rpm with a little wheelspin and redlines within a blink.....which is why I am considering quad t/bs' after what starionchef said about power being more spread though I will still confirm this with rpw or beyond the limit.
There is a BIG difference between the T66 and the T88. Also, you must compare the rear end of both turbos. The T66 more than likely had a smaller rear end. The T88 will have a much bigger rear wheel and huge rear housing, hence the need for well over 30% or additional flow just to get it on boost.
But if it is going on a Cordia, then you have alot to worry about than making power heh.
Anyway, its your engine, do what you want.
Do you have pics of your car?

whats the specs on this monster then? you know ant professional will just laugh at you then try to sell you a better more suited turbo.
Oh, you wont ba able to run quads on the dash head. the smaller ports wont work with the TBs.
Also you'll need to get a custom cam made, you know what to use?

dreaming and scheming
or they will just laugh and take his money.
I just dont see how it can work, the quick cars are the ones that are engineered as a package not just bolts on but hey what would I know about this stuff.
there you go toyboy, a challenge for you to prove us all wrong. Keep us posted on the results.

Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

Maybe Toysrus has one of those wind up toy cars and wants to make it go faster? But personally Toysrus i think someone needs to bolt a brain into your head so you think before spending stupid amounts of money on stupid things which probably wont work so really its a waste of time and money when that money can be used for other things which will actually work and wont be a waste of time.
Just my thought anyway

Firstly, Cam it's not really a waste if money if it doesn't work 'cause I'll just sell the turbo ,downgrade and still use the highly modified engine.
And wantsom, yeah I know which is why I actually try to research proven combinations with the T88 and see how it goes, plus I'm modifiying this engine around the T88 so the end result will be very different, as I'll be doing everything possible to decrease the spool-up time and let the turbo do the rest once boost hits.
Starionchef, you mean the 42mm TB's won't work with this head, ie need a smaller set ?
And NXTIME, just 'cause straions are slow, doesn't mean cordias' are slower
All I'm saying is that it can't hurt to try and if it doesn't I'll switch down, and still make a hansome profit :D, the only people stupid here are those who beleive I paid $4+K for it :beer

Erm...toyboy, bring on any Cordia you like and I'll gladly race it at the track. But if you believe what you are saying then I wish you the very best of luck.toysrus wrote: And NXTIME, just 'cause straions are slow, doesn't mean cordias' are slower

I'm very keen to see how the turbo goes, make sure you post the dyno print out so we can see where ( if ) it made power.
What have you done to the motor to improve the laggy situation?
I know T88s of various size work on motor of over 3lts, but even they have massive lag, but when it hits, oooh.
The only way I could see a turbo that big working on a DASH motor is if you either massivly ported the head or through it in the bin and used a massivly ported twin cam head. And you would have to spend huge dollars to get the motor to rev to atleast 9000 rpm, to get any kind of boost from the T88.
As for the "42mm" TBs, they are 45mm with 60mm inlets, 45mm butter flys. No you wont need smaller, you cant use them at all. Take a look at the DASH head, notice that it has 12valves and 8 inlet ports. 4 ports are 36mm and the other 4 are about 12mm.
You could make a manifold to used 4 TBS but it would be hard to make due to the extra ports. If I were you and all you say is true ( and I honestly would like to help) use a single TB of 65mm (ala XF) and adapt it to a custom manifold. I have a few designs that would work well, if your for real I can show them to you and get a good manifold sorted.
But, I'll say this to you, IF THE MILK TURNS OUT TO BE SOUR, I AINT THE KIND OF PUSSY TO DRINK IT. Yeah?

Chef are you saying you're a pussy (lol)
Toyboy,
We aint bagging you, no one here has ever not generally supported someone trying some new idea. The Chef and NxTime have played with these cars for a very long time and have "different" ideas on their cars right now.
But if something does not have technical merit they will tell you, to try and help you avoid a pitfall. All I will say is I dont think you will have to worry about the boost/lag issue because you wont be able to get the thing to fit in the first place.
But hey its your money, just go for it, but to avoid disappointment place the 'for sale' ad now for the big turbo in readiness.

Your right about the fitment thing, Wantsom, I still have to see if it will fit, but if it does, beware.......
I know what I'm doing is crazy but this is where I got my inspiration from >> http://www.suprastore.com/topsecsuport.html
2.2L with T88-34D 650HP with 1.8bar of Boost at 8500rpm with a Race Head
I actually appreciate you guys trying to help me, but I'm not one to easily give-up just cause someone says so, If it fits with a reasonable amount of room left, then I will try it

Starionchef, if I still have major problems with lag, I'll concede defeat but I do know that I will have lag problems anyway, just a matter of how low I can get it to start boosting.
Can I get a couple of designs of you, here's a challenge...how would I modify MPI for the extra 4 inlets', or just have the 12 valves running all the time ?
