all that effort and have a sub standard engine? that would suck.
Please explain your statement.
Why even bother?

Who would even attempt such a conversion.

So how will not using a 6G74 bottom end result in having a sub-standard engine?

How is that dissimmilar to not using the 4G63 'bolt on crap' onto a 4G64?

why bother 6g72 and 6g74 have 7KW difference between them but the price difference is probably huge.
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

Because 74 is a bigger number than 72 so it must be better :wtf:

Chrysla, you still haven't answered my questions. And you haven't substantiated any of your 'valid suggestion(s)' yet. I don't see anyone attacking anyone, just some empty statements.

i didnt read it properly get over it.

i didnt think at the time of the 3000 GT engine i was thinking of magna engine, as they are the same without turbos.

for the small extra between those 2 engines i would have gone the 3.5.

ok happy, i stuffed up.

i aint losing any sleep over it.

Magna and 3000GT the same?

Do Magnas have quad cams and 4 bolt mains out of the box?

Better still do what I'm doing use Quad cam heads and a hybrid 3.5/3.8 bottom end, while retaining the 3lt engine number to squeeze in under rego requirements.

You won't need to do that to fit a turbo'd 6 or 8 in NSW to make it legal.

You don't need to do it for QLD either. From memory we can get away with a 4L turbo in a heavyweight starion.

At the moment I am looking at trying to find and price a 6G74 DOHC Pajero motor that are in NJ/K pajeros. Apparently these have cast cranks though so I'm unsure how they will cope with boost. Alternatively still trying to find a 6G74 DOHC FWD Diamante motor (essentially the same as Pajero, but with forged cranks). The interweb has a plethora of info out there, but it all takes so damn long to trawl through.
Do Magnas have quad cams and 4 bolt mains out of the box?
Not sure about the mains, but no on the quad cams. SOHC 4valve/cylinder.

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a Gen 1 3000GT engine and Gen 2?? The Gen 2s come with 4 bolt mains.

1st gens have a cam angle sensor at the back of the head. 2nd Gens use a crank angle sensor. Also, 2nd gen has forged crank. Best place for info on these engines is the forums on www.3si.org. Not sure if they are up as they had a large virus attack last time I was there.

I was told that for vehicles under 1400kg(can't remember exact number but it included Starion)) that you could go 4 times the weight of the vehicle for NA motors and 2.5 times the weight of the vehicle for forced induction motors.

Ie 1250kg x 2.5 = 3125cc

However this was a couple of years ago when I started the project.

In NSW, the rules are 2.5 x vehicle weight for vehicle <1100kgs; and 4 x vehicle weight for >1100kg for forced induction.
