Barney Up-date

Post by Barney »

Hi Guy's

Ive spent alot of money iin the last few months :D

Got me an EVO motor, Stroker crank (now 2.3ltrs), Eagle Rods, JE Pistons, S/Steel ex manifold, custom intake manifold being made, not sure on turbo yet, probably Garrett GT2871RS

Car is now fitted with a roll cage and is fully seam welded. Petrol tank removed and have re-fitted a 38 ltr Plastic race tank in the boot. All Kevlar race seats dummy fitted so have the harnesess and window net and dash. + Heaps of other things.

The car is now at the paint shop being painted bright Orange.

I cant wait to get it on the track , racing in 3J or better known as Improved Production.

I do, I can't believe you even had time to come and post

You wouldn't happen to be trying to sneak the 2.3L Engine into the 2L Class would you ? :D

Your having most of the work being done by a Workshop I assume ? I know I wouldn't be able to get that far in a short space of time with the free time I have......

Keep at it till it's completely finished then take some pics for us to dream about that night

There's an under 2L class and over 2L class. And since a 2L turbo Starion is in the over 2 litre class anyway there is no sneaking to be had with the 2.3L.

That's the exact setup I want (give or take with the turbo), except I don't have the cash

That's a pretty damn good effort, It'll be very interesting to see how you go, keep us informed!

By the way what did you spend on the engine if you don't mind me asking?

Why is the 1997cc 4G63B engine classified as > 2L? Is it due to the forced induction and hence a capacity multiplier?

My guess was he meant under 2lt, and 2lt and over.. otherwise where do the 2lt go? "under 2lt/over 2lt class"

Correct NXTIME. For turbo engines you multiply the capacity by 1.7.

Sorry, I didn't know they still used the multiplier rule :wtf:

Why not then run the 4G64B Bottom-end and bring it up to 2.5 or even 2.6L by Offsetting the Crankshaft and getting custom Conrods ?

Did you consider getting the custom Arias pistons with the 'Quench pad' design for the DOHC Cylinder Head ?

/On a side note, did any of you know that one of the V8 Supercar teams were caught running NOS I think very early in the year or late last year and basically were fined an undisclosed amount without any point penalties so as to keep it under wraps and not alert sponsors let alone supporters.......

It was definately a suprise to me when I heard it from one of our Formula SAE Directors here at Adelaide Uni, I thought people would be smarter then that 'cause it's only a matter of time before you get caught out.......

If I get the exact date on when they were found out, you should be able to go back through the footage of the before and after races and determine who it is as I don't like asking too many questions especially on such a delicate topic as that.

the issue with the multiplier rule is that rotories aways win out.

Not the case in Improved Production class (3J)
the equivalence factors are as follows
Piston Engine - normally aspriated x 1.00
Piston Engine - Turbo charged x 1.70
Rotary Engine - normally aspirated x 1.80
Rotary Engine - Turbo Charged x 3.06

The other issue with a Rotary engine is they normally requie a big turbo to really make them go, but with a 36mm intake restrictor this will slow them down quite a bit.

There is also weight restrictions for late model cars (built after 1/1/1986)

They are for front wheel drive
up to 1400cc - 875kgs
1401 to 1600cc - 965kgs
1601 to 2000cc - 1045kgs
2001 to 3000cc - 1175kgs
3001 to 4000cc - 1285kgs
4001 to 6000cc - 1405kgs
For rear wheel drive, add 50kg for four wheel drive add 90kg

So if you have a 200sx 2.0 turbo your minimum weight is 1335 kg, engine size 2000cc x 1.70 factoring = 3400cc plus rear wheel drive. A WRX would be 1375kgs.

This is just some of the rules for the series, you should see the CAMS book :?

Because my car is older than 1986 i have no weight restriction. I would think my weight would be approx 1050kg to 1100kg. Now i have to run a restrictor, this will limit HP to approx 320 RWHP :( but with shit loads of torque :D
