i just got my dizzy locked just like ems wanted and now the car wont start up....
i think i screwed around with the timing....does sumone know where it should be set at???
help appreciated

Rotate the engine by hand until No.1 cylinder is at top dead centre and the timing mark on the cam is at the 9'oclock position.

Now insert the distributor so that the rotor contact is pointing to No.1 cylinder contact in the distributor cap.

This should be enough to get the engine running so that you can get a timing light on it and dial in the timing correctly.

thanks cookie i tried that and it still wouldnt start, just shoots flames out of the exhaust and throttle bodyand sometimes just dies out, see b4 i got the dizzy lock it started up fine. i dont know what else it could be.

You got the two wires around the right way in the dizzy?

yeah i got them the right way....exactly the same way as it says on the wiring diagram...it cranks ova like its gonna start but then it just starts farting flames...like i said i got it started when the dizzy wasnt locked so i dont know whats going on...plus the engine keeps flooding with petrol coz the fuel pump keeps shooting it in...that wouldnt be a big prob would it?
maybe the flames are because of the petrol. do u think i should disconnect the fuel pump?
anything to get the fucking thing started! :o

you may have leads on the wrong spark plugs.

make sure the engine is on TDC number one.

another way to do this is.

1 remove number one spark plug
2 stick ya finger in the hole
3 rotate the engine untill you can feel the pressure pushing your finger out
4 have a look at the crank degrease mark it should be close to TDC
5 if its within 10mm move it to TDC

wats the firing order?
and just the clarify things....
theres 10BTDC and 10TDC ande the one in between...the crank should be set in the middle yeah...then the dizzy goes in....is there n e specific way of putting the dizzy in?
coz i followed the numbers on the dizzy cap...could be on the wrong way

Firing order 1-3-4-2

When the dizzy is in, the rotor will be pointing to about 8 o'clock

The dizzy cap only goes on one way.

Just make sure that once the dizzy is in that the rotor contact in the dizzy is pointing to the No.1 spark plug contact.

what i did was line up the mark on the big crank pulley with the TDC mark and then putting the dizzy staright in with the rotor facing around 4o'clock...so i must be 180deg out yeah....just have to do it the other way...ill try dat tonight.

Rotor is in the wrong spot.

TDC is ok.
When you put the dizzy in the rotor will turn around as it engages the cam sprocket. You will need to turn the rotor around before you put it in to allow for this. I assume you have the dizzy cap off when you're doing this. When the dizzy is fully in, the rotor should point to around 8 o'clock.
Put the dizzy cap on and make sure the lead that runs from the cap (at 8 o'clock) goes to number 1 cylinder.

But you must be at TDC ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE.

So crank timing mark at the '0' mark.
Cam shaft timing mark at the 9'oclock position.
Dizzy rotor at 8'oclock position.

And thats it.
