Rally Starion

Post by avandull »

I was a starter in a rally today, and I had the pleasure of starting a starion! I spent all day chatting to the fella who built it, nice guy, but I was so flabbergasted at seeing the thing that I forgot to mention the site  . The car was nice, but wasn't going very fast on the day. I got a photo: check it out.

Are the drive shafts included?

Also, found out why the car was going slow, the big end let go and completely seizing the motor. I noted a slight knock as he stopped at the last stage. Well I was informed it got worse and he did not make it back to Hobart.

No driveshafts. But you can use 1989 US Starion ones from Oscar.

Rally Starions

Post by Alan »

There were quite a few of these around at one stage.
Two ran in the 1988 Rally Australia.
One driven by Ross Dunkerton & Steve McKimmie finished fifth,
another driven by David Officer & Kate Officer finished seventh.

Also a UK magazine called Retro Cars (Jan 05) had a reature on Pentti Airikkala's Group A car from the 1988 British Rally Championship.

Those 5 star mags on the widebody are odd to me, I'm sure I've seen some very similar looking ones on a ae86 trueno except they were 4 spoke :?
