Hi
I am buying a '87 Starion 2.0l turbo 4G63 in a week and
it has a broken engine, the turbine is damaged and possibly
the engine needs some more attention.
So I am gonna fix the engine and since this is my first Starion
I wanted to get some suggestions on what I could do to tune the
engine a bit, nothing expensive, just a few hundred bucks
I will be ripping the engine completely apart so any modifications
that require total disassembly are not a problem....
Sorry for my bad english if you don't understand something I
am trying to say, not my native language Smile
Best regards
Agust from Iceland

as far as standard starion internal upgrades go its generally balance shaft removal and crank balance : as above, port and polish of the head / intake manifold, forged pistons and a possible compresion raise to something like 8:1, for turbo: high flowing is supposed to be a good move.
most other modifications are external, or become internal again with a aftermarket computer ie: cam, manifold and injector changes.
plenty of things that can be done outside of engine for gains.

Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

a few hundred bucks Starion_Turbo...........^^^
never heard of a hi flow job being cheap...
forgies not cheap
port and polish... i am not sure of...
You think that's fast??? You got nothin' on Roger!!
For a few hundred bucks, bleed valve to up the boost, larger diameter and freer flowing exhaust, clean up the casting dags and stuff in the head and manifolds while you have it apart.
Paint all the bits pretty colours while you have it apart also. :D
If you want to spend more money, search the forums here for MPI, forged pistons, adjustable cam gears, hiflow turbo.

I think I get a new head that is ported and polished with the
car when I get it, the guy that owns it now was going to
fix it himself but didn't have the time.
I will probably get a 2,5" exhaust
As for aftermarket computer ie: cam, manifold and injector changes
can you tell me if there are any good pages on the internet
where I can order this kind of stuff, not a lot of it in Iceland :D
I am not sure what I will do about the turbine, new ones are pretty
expensive. I have heard of different types, T3/T4, 12g, 14g, 18g
but I really don't know a lot about turbos so it would be great if
anyone could tell me the difference :)

A T3/T4 turbo is a turbo made by garrett which uses a T3 exhuast housing and a T4 compressor housing, this would be good for daily driving I believe.
All the turbo's below are made by MHI (Mitsubishi heavy industries)
A 12G turbo would be too small for a starion, a 14G turbo would be a small step up from your turbo you have now, and an 18G would be quite a big step up. If you want to drive round everyday.. alot of people seem to take interest in the TD05H Big 16G.
Raising your compression by planing your head can be quite good too, as long as you don't exceed 8.5:1 the engine should be able to handle it.

Do you know if the Garrett T3/T4 fits without an adaptor plate and
is it giving a lot more power than the stock turbo? My starion is rated
at 179 hp stock. I would like to get to the 200+ category :D that
would make me very happy.... I found a T3/T4 for $350 new, that
is not so much, I think I could afford that :)
