colt gti

Post by logik »

bought a turbocharged mitsubishi colt (85 model) on the weekend for $1000, big weber with a tc04 hanging off it running 11psi. motor is a 4g32t.

anyone got any information on these cars? it looks like a bog standard colt with a turbo motor - but they guy reckons it was turbo from factory and an import.

no boost gauge on dash or any turbo decals - but it does go :)

need to tune the carby on it as well, anyone familiar with doing this for blow through carby setup?

EDIT: does anyone know if tc04 uses same flange as the tc05?

Can you post some pics? Engine bay as well. There were Mirage turbos back then not sure about Colts. In fact I think some Colts were badged Mirages in other countries. Not 100% sure.
Does it have the high/low range gearbox?

The factory turbo colts had a wierd combined turbo & manifold. The inlet was also oddly made, but I can't remember the specifics.

right on the money there MrBishi

has four runners that combine into one pipe which goes to other side of the head where the turbo/inlet is. the guy has a falcon carb on it (weber 34 adm)

i've had one look in the engine bay - been working all week

might be able to get some pics today

fixed a bunch of problems yesterday - vacuum advance was plugged so we just redid the timing (previous owners probably used static timing for high rpm rallying) and plugged vacuum advance back in. second time ive seen the car since i paid for it :D

had a good look and its actually a suck through setup - tc04 sucks the juice in from the weber 34 adm.

got pics too!

looks like a normal colt

but open the bonnet and we discover

that its not

because...

its turbo!
Image
and grips to the road like shit on a stick (rally tyres 195 on 14" mags)

and sounds rather good

pretty good score for $1000

yer thats generally how suck thru works (dont quote me i know nothing of this ancient technology)

its very very laggy but once your past 4000rpm it will spin the wheels on demand.

im just spewing that i have a rebuilt tc05 that i was going to put on it - now i find i cant use it :(

going over to mates house again to redo the timing cause i didnt get it quite right the first time (beer + timing = bad timing) and get a boost gauge on it (we were told it was running 11psi but it could be more/less).

the car looks good in the photos but has a fair bit of surface rust ;)
