Hi guys,
now my pain'ts almost done it's time for me to get a few things cooking, I currently have a std engine/hiflow tc06/sonata/2'5 exhst/mpi/cooler setup.

Now since i'm going to be putting on a new head gasket i thought now might be a good time to look at a cam, my power target is 200-250 rwhp at about 14psi (standard internals).

I was thinking the following would get me there on top of what i already have:
camtech cam (cookie spec ;)) are new valvesprings needed? (i know what ashly will say)
rpw cam gear
3" exhaust w/new dump
td05 14b (tis lying around in my garage) might upgrade it to big 16g rear (Mrb1 could you help me with this? as chris(meek) says your the man to go to about these things).

does anyone have a ballpark idea what i'd be looking at for 14b upgrade + cam setup I'm budgeting $1500-$2000 for this,

You'll hit your target figure easily.

Stay away from the RPW cam gear. They are crap.

Get one of these:

Tomei EVO 1-3 Cam wheel. $280.00
Yes this DOHC cam wheel fits the SOHC.

more power for a turbo car, more boost, more fuel... build around that to make it last, I know it's simplifying but....

Depends how far out your factory cam and cam wheel are. Maybe nothing. Maybe lots.

However they are virtually essential with a non-factory cam to ensure it is dialled in correctly.

is that like having your belt one tooth out, I had mine like that for a while without realizing it. I must say it had more bottom end torque.. wouldn't it be cheaper to do that, I mean moving the belt one tooth that way or the other??

You want a lot more fine adjustment than one whole tooth at a time.
Each tooth is about 8 degrees or so. That's huge.

Apparently some people have had losses of upto 30hp if the cam is just 1 degree out.

Yes I have 200HP at 16psi (TC06-17A with TD06 compressor housing) with stock engine and L300. With cam and 20psi I would say 220-230HP approx. However I believe this power level is dangerous with the stock pistons. It may be alright for a dyno run and on the street from time to time but I would not do 10 laps around Eastern Creek!

Yes no problem I should have my EVO3 test turbo on soon. I was showing WANTSOM the turbo bits last night.
Basically you have to rebuild the turbo and fit a big16G wheel, compressor housing to match and the EVO3 turbine housing. Actually the EVO3 turbine housing is a bolt on.

Your doing the same as me except I'm using a 2.5inch and a 8.5:1 compresion ratio, don't mean to hi jack but can someone give me a basic rundown on whats needed to be done to fit a new cam.
Watch your speed - It's virtually impossible to pick it out of the carpet if it gets blown off the table.

Unbolt cam wheel. Make sure belt doesn't slip off the gears below. Wedge of wood in the right place seems to work.
Unbolt the cam bearings.
Take out cam and put in new cam. Smother with honey (ok I can't remember the full name of it)
Do up bearing bolts.
Re-bolt up cam wheel.
Adjust rockers.
Finished....

At least that's sort of what I did......

Is the cam gear for the 4F54 engine inside the rocker cover?

4G54 are a totally different ballgame Woody.
Yes they are inside the rocker cover but being a chain rather than belt makes it a bit more akward to adjust. There are a few options open to you
- import a custom/homemade one from shaun silva on the starquest forums.
- buy a rollmaster one made in Aus. The rollmaster is a really neat bit of gear, but requires you to slip the chain around the gear to get your adjustments. ie its much more time-consuming than the belt style (or shauns one) but will not slip out of adjustment ever.

Do not buy RPW stuff for either motor.
