L300 diff into staz

Post by GADGET »

I heard through my mechanic that his mate will be trying out a theory that you can get a LSD from a starion and put the L300 ratios in it to give a far better final drive ratio that will still see you over 200km/h

This is for the rally one that has been getting around in SA for some time now.

If it works He might just do it to mine to. :D

Anyone tried this before?

I've never had problems getting over 200 in any of my starions...

Neither have I.
Just saying when the ratios are changed you will max out at 160 or something like some diffs can do.

3.5 in a starion with a rev limit of 6k will max out at 240

Starion 3.5:1

L300 4.6:1 or 4.8:1
L300 1600 auto (rare) 4.2:1

Definetly no advantage for top speed, just faster acceleration.
I'd suggest Scorpion 3.3:1 would be a better solution for top speed.

BTW these all seem to be interchangable, but can anyone confirm they are.
I'm going to try and track a 4.2:1 L300 centre down but not holding my breath.

Gadget, im about to put a 4.625 gear into my starion to increase acceleration for 1/4mile racing. Might be a couple of weeks away though but will let you know the difference.
At ther moment with the 3.55 im getting 240kmh in 4th at 7000rpm, good for speed but not 1/4 racing.

Even though I know the SOHC engine starts going wrong over 6000rpm can it not reach 7000rpm under the strain of 4th gear?

If this is gona work then it would be so cool. LSD cost me $150 and L300 diff wont be much more. But the quarter mile is what I am aiming at. StarionPWR would be good to hear what happens.

L300 4.6 onto a starion LSD. I have already done this. The crown wheel is the same dia, but is thinner, i had to make up a 7mm spacer ring and replace the ten bolts with longer ones to get the correct backlash and pre load. The car now takes off like a rocket and pulls hard in every gear. Fantastic for rally.
