Dash removel and leather storage

Post by bshade »

OK two questions for you starquest heads. ONE, how do I get the entire dash board assembly off? I have a quest that got wrecked because I let a friend drive it and I am tearing it completely apart. I took out everything from the dash back. All that’s left is the dash and the steering column. I took out every screw and bolt that I could find. Even had to drill two screws off because I could not get them out. It seams like there is locktight on ever screw in the car. TWO, how do you suggest that I store the interior pieces, it is a complete black leather interior in mint condition. I want to keep it that way, I am thinking wrapping each piece in cloth and then putting it in a black trash bag after washing treating with leather treatment and letting completely dry. Let me know what you think. Thanks for all the help. Brad

Hope this helps, dunno what all the letters mean though.

Yes, storing the seats like that sounds fine, just make sure they're not in a damp garage or wherever.

You probably missed the bolts under the top vents "G" on each side in Al's picture. It should just come out once you remove them (and the two obvious ones "H" on each side) and all the stuff around the centre console and heater controls. The dash then slides out on two guides protruding from the top centre just under the clock.

It helps. But I didn't.

I removed the supports so the wheel and steering column fell down, then kinda managed to get the dash up and over the wheel.

The trickest part was the heater. I couldn't work it out, then had another look and it had fallen out. So Ive still got no idea the proper way of removing the face plate with the screws behind it.

At any rate, it will be easier if you remove the wheel, I didnt because at the time I did not have a steering wheel puller and wasnt strong enough to pull the wheel off the splines. So I just wrestled with it a little.

na, I got a grey GSR-III in many pieces (goes to get melted in a week or so, still registered, but dont think anybody will want it), and a black GSR-X.

http://www.starion.co.nz/images/gsrx-jbump1.jpg <- quick pic for you

As for the wheel:

Steering wheel puller you can get from SuperCheap or Repco for cheap as. Makes the process less stressful. In the past Ive just had friends rip them out for me. Does take a bit of effort, and if you decide to do it, something soft on your chest helps. Otherwise you can get a fair whack when the wheel finally lets go. Unless its aftermarket and has the nice 6 allen key bolts, which makes it a 1 minute job.

Side vents can be kept if you want them. There is lots of other crap there too, including a cloth interior with perfect seats, that I dont want.

Its doors are on the GSR-X :) I too am doing the mutli-key things. Sorry cant help there hehe
