Wolf 3d V4 + VR4
Wolf 3d V4 + VR4
Hey guys, need some help here.
I am fitting a VR4 into my Cordia...yes I know...shame on me...
Anyway.....
I need an ignition and fuel map...can anyone help?
Also...the crank angle sensor...what wires go where? VR4 has 4...Wolf only needs 3...me so confused..
Any help would be appreciated

VR4 ECU only has one pin for the crank angle sensor, pin 21
See vfaq.com for more info on that, so I imagine that the other 3 are just power. Two of which would be grounds. Would make things a lot easier if you find someone with a VR4, and monitor the voltage/resistance to see what each one does.
5V=power
0V to 5V=signal
0 ohms 0V=earth
Also nzmmc.co.nz forums, heaps of EVO and VR4 owners, someone there might know the connections for the sensor. I've run in to a couple of people in there running 4G63 4WD Cordias for rally etc.
Although hopefully someone here who runs a similar setup knows the answer properly, just putting in a backup solution if nobody else replies.

the VR4 CAS has a optical setup, with 2 signal outputs and +V and a 0V.
the +V supply can be anything from +5V to +12V. the wolf will have a +v supply wire to the CAS, use the TEMP 0V for the CAS 0V. the VR4 CAS also has an inbuilt inverting amplifier, which turns the signal into positive going pulses, as the timing disk slots go past the read head. which is what the wolf will want.
now for the bad news.
unless you have the latest version wolf firmware fitted, which may know how to read the weird VR4 timing signal, you will need a new timing disk.
best idea, ring Steve at Wolf, tell him what you have got, and get him to suggest the best solution. mine was to make a new timing disk, to suite the old Wolf interface that i have. the solution may be easier now. let us know.
Dave.

VR4 CAS connects to pin 21, 22, 104 (may be grounded) and is spliced into 102 and 107. Well, according to my wiring diagram anyway.

VR4 Crank trigger
The VR4 crank trigger unit does have 4 wires Red = power, Black = earth Yellow = Clyinder firing , Blue= clyinder reset. If you look at the disc inside there are four slots on the outer edge= clyinder firing the two slots on the inner area ( one long one short) is trigger reference for coil firing duel coils. If you use the wolf you will need to use a pull up resistor on each trigger wires other wise the wolf V4 wont see the signal.
