Quickest way is to line up your car with another starion and make a few comparisons.
if this fails just use a bit of common sense and block up all the holes where you think air is gonna get in

To diable the EGR valve, unplug the black 2 wire plug near the coil going to the little black solenoid that lives there. If it's a JB the solenoid is moved over near the injection manifold.

I just hate the idea of recirculating exhaust gasses

be careful, if disconnected may cause detonation under part throttle, it's supposed to keep the temps down..

really? I thought it was just an emmissions thing.

Might leave it alone for the meantime.

I've read a few posts about people wanting to disconnect the EGR - why? This device keeps temperatures down when cruising, gives better fuel economy, produces lower emmissions, and doesnt affect power.

I'm not a Starion expert, but I know cars a wee bit - and I cant for the life of me figure out why you'd remove a divce like this. Someone explain?

Well I wasnt aware of when it actually turns on. If its just for cruise then I wont worry. Obviously recycling exhaust doesn't do wonders for maximum power, but if its only at cruise, then who cares.

The other thing people do is to weld up the MCA-JET valve and grind it down. Apparently having it there causes problems with the combustion when you start pushing things. Im a long way off from 'pushing things' so haven't even considered that idea.

When I got my first Starion, I had a lot of people go 'oh my god its still got tthe EGR hooked up, you should rip that out, get a few extra hp' - hence my impression it engaged at higher rpm/full throttle.

I dont really care, but if I can get 5hp from unclipping a solenoid Ill do it, but it sounds like that is not the case, so Ill just leave it alone :)

Interesting thing about the Starion, it is damn economical.

Hamilton -> Auckland in a Galant, 2L non-turbo - $20 gas one way
Hamilton -> Auckland in a Starion 2L turbo - $20 return with some left over
