Vaccum ignition advance

Heeeey

Can someone please tell me how to change the igniton timing using the vaccum advance?

I just changed the cambelt and the igition timing is out by 11 degree's, just want to know where the screw/knob is to adjust it

If you only changed the cambelt then the ignition timing should not have changed. Unless your out a tooth when you put the new belt on.

You better check it.

Anyway, to adjust the ignition timing you loosen of the nut holding the distributor and rotate the distributor until the timing is correct.

Thanks cookie, but is there no way to change it using a vaccum controlled method?
ProZac did the timing that way (or at least i think) with my previous starion, didn't take the dizzy cap off or anything?
...I think im gonna have to buy the haynes manual.

Never heard of changing timing with vacume lines, it is controled via the distributor, loosen off the bolt and time it with the car running , 7 deg BTDC.

You dont remove the distributor cap or anything just twist the entire unit slightly and monitor it with a timing light.
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

:o :o twist the entire unit, will it just freely move? hold it by the dizzy cap?

Don't forget to remove the Vacuum line from the advance actuator and block it.

Thanks you guys have helped heaps, but i still don't fully understand can anyone provide a picture of the particular bolt of which i undo and what i hold onto while turning it, i don't want it to fall out :wtf:
Am i just moving the contacts of the dizzy cap in which the rotor hits?

Loosen off this nut (see picture) until the you can turn the distributor by hand. The dizzy won't fall out. You need to take the nut off entirely and yank pretty hard to get the dizzy out of there.

Disconnect the vacuum line to the vac advance unit and plug it.

Put on a timing light on No.1 ignition lead.

Start engine.

Adjust dizzy until timing is 8 degrees BTDC.

Tighten up dizzy nut.

It's still got about 0.5mm adjustment left in it. :)

A TD06-17C. Doesn't do much below 3000rpm.. but after that it's all good to redline. However I think the turbo can make more power, but the cylinder head is holding it back. The head hasn't even been polished or port matched yet. One day..

I've done this, you have the belt on too advanced or retarded, by one tooth, the only way to fix it is to line up the timing marks properly..

Do i haaaaaaaave to or can i get away with changing the dizzy position? I've done it twice and am not happy at the idea of doing it a thrid time no matter how lucky it maybe.
Everytime i tried to align it the cambelt would go "click" as i let the tensioner in and move the crank, so i had to move the camwheel up a little to let it tension properly. :?
