How do you move the engine forward? Custom mounts I imagine? Doesn't this cause more issues with the gearbox?

Also how do you 'adjust' your firewall? What tools etc?

Also could you just put a metal bumper on the firewall, so if the engine comes back it hits a plate instead of the crank angle sensor?

And you should make copies of that adaptor plate, it would make VR4 conversions a lot easier, and probably sell for good amount of money.

Rebuild VR4 engine in Starion block VS buying an adaptor plate

easy choices there

to move the engine foward i slotted the engine mounts a bit, but i also tapped the fire wall in just a bit, i don't think it will afftect the gear box as it's not moving far.
i really should of made a proper template of the adapter plate but i didn't  but i may be taking the motor out again yet.
aswell as making the plate i had to drill 2 holes in the gearbox, (no pic sorry) and make 2 dowls that go on the bottom 2 bolts so the plate will not float so to speak.
most of the fabricating for conversion is done, neext big one is the turbo manifold, have u done any of that scum? and what r u doing for your gearbox?

It was Mark - the guy who had the car before me. Did u ever meet him?
I'm not sure where he is at the moment, i know he was overseas for a while. I think the bits came from Mal Crockenburg.

turbo manifold is my next big thing too. not for a while now as I am moving house. as for my gearbox I am rebuilding it into the right bellhouseing, didn’t u see the post? personally I was going to rebuild the box anyway and unless yours has been done lately I recommend pulling just the back cover off and checking the spline for the largest gear you can see (dun know what it does, but one of the main ones) I looked at gearboxes from 3 different trannie places (about 8 boxes in total) and they where all just as bad as mine, if not worse. so if anyone is suspect and doing this conversion I suggest looking at the rebuild option. once u rebuild your box and adapt a hydraulic clutch to it (about 2 hours work) it bolts straight on to the vr4, the starion starter bolts straight in, the gearbox mounts bolt straight up, and the tail shaft goes right on. no probs.
I HAVE NOT FINISHED THE REBIULD YET, BUT I AM SURE THE STARION INTERNALS WILL FIT (9999999999999999% SURE) just wanted to clear that up :D

Modified engine mounts to bring the engine forward say 20mm, and possibly a thick adaptor plate for Starion gearbox might be the cleanest way

hmm pondering

got lots of time to ponder, besides the TD05 I have rust work, panel damage, seatbelts (stupid sticker fell off grrrrrrr) and fix those stupid window washers before I even begin the VR4 project.

scum so what simptoms/noise does the gearbox make when those parts u said were worn?
will u be constructing your own turbo manifold? and what computer r ya using?

Paradoxx are using the vr4 sump? cause the vr4 sump sits a fair bit lowr than the starion one

gonna use std vr4 computer. yes, will make turbo manifold. as for gb noise, it doesn’t make much. some of you will need to compare gear backlash, put the car in 1st, or any gear I suppose, but u all have to use the same gear. rock the car back and forth and try to measure the movement. don’t push so hard the suspension moves, just the play in the gearbox. really don’t know if this will work, but cant think of anything else. from memory my car went about 60mm, I put about 30-40mm of that down to the gear-flogged-out thing. if anyone knows what the hell they are talking about, feel free to pipe up, coz I aint a gearbox person.
