Well the crossover pipe is actually intercooler piping as it does have a front mount.
As for oil in there...im personaly not sure, as its only just had the turbo done and i never looked after that.
What would it mean if it did? If its important ill go out to the garage and look at the old turbo to see if that gives us any info :P

Ahhhh!!! Dont use cheap oil in a turbo car!
It depends on your definition of cheap.....but the BIGGEST KILLER of turbo seals in cars is people either using incorrect oil, or letting their oil get VERY dirty. Always spend the extra few dollars to get the better oil.
Unfortunately turbo cars do cost a bit more in maintainence due to things like needing better oil etc but thats the decision we all make when we buy a turbo car.
As for the rings....as my mate clint just pointed out, if it was a ring, it should be pinging and missing and shit as well as blowing smoke...and u havent mentioned that. Quite possible that the uneaven beat could be tune related or a whole pile of things.
I hope its not your 5 minute mechanic mate that kept calling on friday night that is giving you this analysis is it?

The idle is always something that would shit me and my mechanic off.
It has a fast idle setting at start up...which as u will notice when its cold, is up around like 1700rpm. Problem is, to get the revs at idle up though, it pushes the revs on startup up way too high!
Although ive never had it conk out on me. It used to idle low at around about 800-900...not as low as 500.
One other thing that clint just pointed out. The smoke problem that i was getting was definately turbo related. Now i dont know what exactly is happening with it for you, but for me, when the turbo was blown, it wasnt constantly blowing smoke. It was often if you would run it at low revs for a long period (highway is a classic example) then load the motor up a bit...and it would blow smoke galore out the back. Admitedly this stopped after the new turbo, but it tells us two things.
First of all...the rings werent the problem that was causing it to smoke for me. If it was a rings problem, it would smoke constantly, and only be in relation to how hard you were on the accelerator. Itd also ping and really run like shit. Secondly, if its still not smoking ALL THE TIME, but rather at the times when i described...then i would say that it was my first suspicion that it was revved to hard and damaged the seals.
