Whats a good ecu for money
Hey, just looking at the ecu. Whats a good aftermarket ecu for someone who lives in nz and is frowning at spending $2000 on a chip and a pcb board?

Well you live in NZ,LINK would be your best choice wouldn't it be.

I dont like Link myself. My list of preferences are Autronic, then Microtech. I like the Wolf3D, just dont know how well its supported in NZ.
Autronic seems to be the preference these days. But then I haven't got a price on one lately.

i am using a haltech on my car i think it is avery gooy ecu and very easy to play whith.
I woud find the best tuner in your area and ask him what he prefers as an ECU is only as good as its tuner.

What charlie is saying is true because the closet place i can get mine tuned properly is 400k's away,is a pain in the arse,i use the autronic which is very good,but never tried another brand, but i still would use the
LINK as they made in NZ and back up serves would ideal,Charlie i will send that bloody CAM to you, the (stage7) one rofl .

Thanks for the idea Tomsun, the link ecu costs 2k so i mayaswell spend an extra 400 - 500 dollars and get a recognised ecu if i were to spend around $1600 NZD, i was looking more at ecu's you amke yourself for around $300 +TOMSUN wrote:StazzyBabyYeah...

EMS Stinger 4 $990 (Good cheap computer and loom)
Wideband O2sensor $350?
With a laptop and a mate in the passenger seat and some quiet roads you could get a 1/2 decent tune..
EMS is a very popular ECU.
Rigoli is a very recognised performance workshop in Sydney there are 2 or 3 brothers with their own workshops. One of them just uses EMS. I was at the WSID Street Meet and bumped into a guy who has a VS Commodore Twin Turbo V6 on NOS. He ran a 10.7 in full trim with a set of slicks. The car is driven daily and is very smooth. This is car runs an EMS 8860 ($1500) the nex model up fron the stinger. (It has more inputs and outputs & will control the stepper motor for idle control that is on the holdens. The Stinger model will control a solenoid valve like the ones on the fords for idle control.)
Do yourself a favour.... Don't bother with the "Do-it-yourself" ECU. It will take years to get that to work properly.
You could fit the EMS computer to your car and do a rough tune (drivable) yourself in a day.
We fitted one to a Mazda Astina 323 with the Turbo BP motor in 3 hours at Tafe to on of the guys car and he drove it home with a base map that was in the ECU. He brought it back to tafe the next week and did an 80% tune in 2 hours on the dyno but the boost controller was playing up.
But you can get a very good tune on a track if your buddy doesn't get car sick going around a track and looking a the lap top.
Spend the money on the EMS Stinger. Good value for your money.
