4g63 / g63b

hey does any body know what the letters mean (4g63/g63b) or what the difference is between them, i have 2 staz both jap import one is 83 model with non intercooled sirus motor but my 86 model which is sirus dash motor intercooled are both G63B motors, but yet other ones i have seen are 4g63 whats up with that..... :?

i dontknow what that means my engine has a gold SIRUS sticker just next to the oil cap so if anyone can tell me what that means

82 JA, blueprint SIRUS 4g63, dumped and a cooler 17's, exhaust... DEAD :(

It's a "Sirus" family engine. Like the 2.6 and 2.0 sigma motors were "Astron" engines. Who knows how they pick the names.

Moz,

if its an 8 valve head it just means its out of an import. Sirius engines weren't available in Aust delivered cars as far as I know.

If its got Sirius DASH on the rocker cover and 12 valves then it is the Dash head/motor.

Bottom ends are the same regardless.

I was told the b in 63b meant that it was belt driven (ie: belt driven cam) without it I assume it was chain driven ???
Powerplant: Chipped stock ECU, 2044cc, 8.5:1, head intake enlarged and polished, exhaust manifold enlarged,
Balance-shafts eliminated, Intercooled, TC06 @ 10psi, 2.5" high flow exhaust system and dump pipe.

4 = number of cylinders
G6 = engine series
3 = size

Mitsi started putting '4G63B' instead of 'G63B' on their rego plates when the newer twin cam versions came out (well on the Japan models anyway so I have seen). The block itself is still very similar with the exception of wide -> narrow and possibly a few new oil tracks, they just added the cylinder designation. At the same time the engine names like Astron, Orion, Sirius etc also ended. They also seemed to stop naming new technologies with crazy names like "Dual Action Super Head", I dont even know what JET stood for - Japanese Emissions Terminator?

The "B" means that it is a jet valve engine. The jet valve is part of mitsubishi's effort to meet strict polution control laws. If I can find a pic of one, I will post it. :wtf:

hey not to sure on the B option as my engine is a 12v sirusdash and has no jet valves at all :?

The "4" stands for 4 cylinders.
The "G" stands for gas.

If you look at a Triton Diesel, it starts with 4D ---- the "D" stands for Diesel.
If you look at a Triton V6, it starts with 6G72. EG..... 6 cylinders runs on gas.

The next 2 numbers EG... 63, is the model number. The "B" I think is belt driven. The "T" is turbo.

I have a DASH motor in my JA, and when I updated the info for the Rego, I noticed that the "4" is left off at the start. Why, I don't know.

it stands for belt.

like the saturn motors
4G32 is chain
4G32b is belt.

Hey all, 'B' does not stand for 'Belt driven'. What about a Jap G54B engine?? They're still an Astron motor with timing chain...

4= Number of cylinders
G= Gasoline engine
6= Series/Family
3= Displacement

I didn't think jet was an acronym? Like MCA-JET = Mitsubishi Clean Air Jet (valve)?
