Atmosphere venting will create a rich spike, and ringwash can be a nasty thing over time... But it does go pshhhhh...

I say; buy a fancy one that can do both, you will get sick of an atmosphere venting one sooner or later.

You shouldn't have a problem with the factory ECU aslong as your BOV is setup correctly.

go hybrid

Post by tmz_99 »

get a gfb hybrid or stealth bov, then u can pick and choose whatever u want to run.. I runa hybrid myself but havent plumbed it back yet as Im quite happy with atmosphere venting, but the facility is there if I ever change my mind.

its a shame that poeple are more interested in what noise the bov will make, as opposed to how much air it can vent.

Plumb back

Post by Abalistic »

Plumb back gives slightly more power, venting compressed air out the side is just more work for the turbo to do. It has to spool back up to boost when the power comes back on.
Plumb back keeps the compressor wheel free wheeling ready for the next gear change.

Plumbback and Venting BOV's do the "same" by allowing the turbo to spool up quicker through gear changes (by releasing the pressure back flow to the turbo, that would otherwise go back through the turbo to slow the impellers) allowing the impellers to run at higher RPM. The only difference is that one is louder than the other and on a starion with the stock ecu and flow sensor venting the air means that air that has already been measured and matched for fuel is being let go thus creating a rish spike, where as a plumb back BOV will pout the air back into the system so no rich spike is made. However in saying that there won't be much of a rich spike as how many of you are on the throttle while the BOV is heard changing gears. Not me. Vent Louder Baby.

I would recommend a plumb back BOV without it plumbed back that way if you need to you can plumb it back if you get sick of it being so loud but 80% of the people i have spoken too like it and leave it, But most good BOVs can be adjusted to vent quieter by allowing the vent to open more (because the pssshhh sound comes from the compressed air pushing between the BOV piston and the BOV Body, widen that gap and it dosen't have to push as hard making the sound less evident).
