Jackie Chan has a starion
I have actually found an A184 chassis Starion. According to the details on this site: http://f59.aaa.livedoor.jp/~detail/
So, that would indicate that the 2L widebodies were A184's and the 2.6L were A187's.

Its possible the GSR-VR from Japan was an A184. I notice the GSR-VR for sale is 'JE' - perhaps there was a significant reason for the new letter. It was not the only 2L Widebody produced however.
scum/jrod might be able to help us by donating the start of their chassis codes.

Nope, The GSR-VR from Japan came in 2 versions, the 2L and the 2.6. From what I have found, the 2L is the A184 chassis, and the 2.6 is the A187 chassis.
All the flat bodies are A183 chassis. No reference to any "JE's" found.
If the owners of any widebodies could give up their chassis codes and if starion.gsrvr from Qld with the blue UK widebody could do the same, then maybe we can have some solid proof of this. But from what I have found from Japan, these are the chassis codes.
Or perhaps the Japanese members can confirm this?

Some of the information in that thread is suspect, like the link...
http://www.webparts.co.uk/National/Buyg ... HD0006.HTM
It shows the 2.0 Starion being produced up to '89, but in fact, no country got the 2.0 in '89, they were all 2.6's.

Well the non-turbo got its own chassis code. Galants are the same. All E33 are FWD 4G63 non turbo for example. Its so you can match parts based on the start of the chassis code. Altho in saying that, the number didn't change purely based on cam configuration only.
I just wonder, what was the chassis code on the narrow-body G54s? Because thats the only odd one out if they are A183.
I doubt Ill ever truely understand Mitsubishi.
On another note: neither of my Starions have VIN numbers, both were registered by the chassis number - unusual

jrod82, what year model is you UK spec widebody?
I would think that a guy who owns a number of rare Starions and other Mitsubishis (such as the gullwing Starion) would know what the chassis code of his car is. Therefore, I will go with the A184 being for the 2L widebody 1987.

I believe the 2L GSR-VRs were DASH, and hence A184.
This page seems to confirm this. A small amount of GSR-VR's (only 50) where made in 1987 and had the 2L 12V DASH engines in them. These were designated as A184 chassis. These cars were made after the Starion DASH A183's (1984-1987?).

Further evidence: I found this website of a Japanese Starion enthusiast whom bought one of the rare GSR-VR widebodied A184 2L 12V DASH cars. He has pics and details of his complete rebuild of the driveline and also the steering box and brake master cylinder. There are 10 pages:
