How to remove the rear tailgate garnish

Post by Powerslave »

Use a fckn big hammer (FBH for those with a REAL starion toolkit) , lots of beer , and a mostly empty wheelie bin that can hold about 20kgs of broken glass.

Seriously though , I just spent 3 hours removing one off my spare tailgate , swearing and cursing that black goo from hell and now that it's done, I'm wondering if there was an easier way. I made the 2 tools as per the service manual , but it was still a fckn pain in the arse. Anyone care to share their story on getting the rear garnish off the glass ????

Still on the list of things to do. I'm afraid :?

May just drill a hole in the side of the fibreglass to release the rolling nuts.

How to remove the rear tailgate garnish

This is one job where preparation is the key; here's how I think it should go:
#1 Go to Bunnings and buy sharp, metal paint scraper
#2 Buy slab(s) of Duff and put on ice 2 hours before scheduled start
#3 Setup telly & video/dvd player
#4 Test entertainment equipment & beer
#5 Start job
#6 Doh! First make sure all nuts have been undone from underneath garnish!
#7 With all the patience & care of a 110Kg midwife birthing a 7kg baby, wedge the metal scraper under the garnish and push!
#8 Use anything you can get your hands on to wedge open the garnish as you go. Keep pushing.
#9 Don't forget the Duff & oh, is that "the" Paris Hilton of Hilton Hotels fame? You go girl! Here comes the missus, flick telly over to cricket/footy
#10 Before you know it, hey presto the garnish is off!
#11 Now the hard job; getting the black shit off the glass!

Not such a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Hope that helps :beer
