4G64 motor (2.4 litre)
Has anone tried the crank & rods from a 4G64 motor (2.4 litre) in a 4G63 (2 litre) block ?
Or, used a complete 4G64 motor (i.e. with block & head) with the injection and manifolds/turbo from a 4G63 ?

yes, all combinations of the 4g63/4 have been done, both twin cam and single cam, as well as 6 and 7 bolt cranks.
The DSM'ers in the USA have developed these combinations a great deal, with companies such as magnus motorsports making 800+hp from their engines.

yep, those dohc 2.3/2.4s are monsters
sounds like question was about using the 2.4sohc stuff?
I have a 2.4L wide bellhousing pattern motor that I pulled from a truck, that I intend to run as is, with the staz turbo and manifold. Bolts up to the staz 5speed. 7 bolt crank tho.
I'll make the intake plenum bigger and run a foward facing throttle body.
In fact, I'm looking to pull the whole loom from a sonata to run it, then use a $300 piggyback to tune fuel and ignition via laptop.
The bigger dsm maf should wire in, as well as drop in 450cc injectors.
Need to find out the compression ratio and if the cyl head differs.
This setup will replace the 2L staz motor in my ae86 corolla... after the sonata mpi/ecu converion. Definitely wanna keep the digital speedo/ anlog meter combo

I am currently running the 2.4L from an L300(4g64B), standard internals ,custom pleneum, exhaust mainfold, T35/45 500HP BB turbo, PWR intercooler, Delco computer . This motor has been rebuilt with standard internals with the piton crowns machined and slight ported head with mild cam. All bolts up diectly the the starion gearbox & mounts with only computer & wirining required.
In this current set up the motor is prodecing about 350Bhp(AT WHEELS) only a mild 14Psi and the torque in phenomeneal

Wow... you're way ahead of my 'thinking' 4g64. You're already at where I'm trying to get. My approach; I figure with the displacement and ruggedness of truck gear, I'd throw 400hp worth of turbo, parts and tuning at a sohc 2.4 and see if I can hit the 400whp/400wtq mark. Yours sounds well underway to that target and quite impressive and interesting setup.
Some questions if its no bother....
I'd imagine you shaved the piston crowns a bit to lower compression - from what cr to what ? Remember how much you took off ?
Stock composition head gasket ?
Cam specs and source ?
Any details on the delco ecu.... uses mitsu distributor to trigger ?
thanks

4G64 Q & A
Gday Quest Inresponse to your questions :beer
The crowns shave to about 7.8:1 from about 8.6, Dont recall the amount removed though but do remember being dished.
The gasket was stock and not blown in 3 years
CAMS & specs was sworn to secrecy by supplier but mild
The DELCO was from a VP Commodore 5 Litreand has been modified to increse capacity of the memory, the wiring harness spliced in was from a Camira . The Distributor was modified to suit hall sensing pick up ( a signal that works with compter) but dont have exact details on that one.
The igniter was also from a 5 Litre Commodore, and airflow mesure by 3 bar map sensor.
L300 MpI manifold & Series IV Rx7 injectors & Bosh motorsport pump
PS Forgot to metion the staz also has
Koni Coil-overs adjustable Height, Bump and Rebound and uses Eibach
springs
AP 4 Spot Calipers over 330mm by 32mm slotted rotorson the front
with slotted rotors on rear with competition pad compund ( RACE
BRAKES RB74) all round
Custom Strut Braces front & back
Rims Light-weight spec Simmons 16by7.5 front 16by8 rear
Falken Azenis Club Spec semi slick tyres

Sounds like a top set up. Care to post any pics?
Have you actually had it dyno'd? Any track times?

4G64 Systems Details contd.
Also forgot to metion that the system requires the use of a Holden (GM) throttle-body from camira,V6, or 5 litre.
My system is using a V6 body bored with latrger buttrfly inplace.
just in case anyone looking to try same system.

Nah mate couldn'tbe.. mines blue and doesn't see the streets much even though fully road legal (engineer's cert). I mainly use my car for club motorsport in the newcastle MG Car Club competing in Club level & State level Supersprints & Hillclimbs.
( due to level of mods have to be same class as turbo 4WD against Sti"s & Evo"S) :(
