Group A = 352 rwhp?

Hey,just wondering how a 2lt sohc, with a twin injector setup could produce that much grunt :? it's like it's magical or something? how did they do that anyone know?

Max Power output 250 bhp @ 5,800rpm {FIA restrictor fitted}

352bhp @ 6000rpm {without restrictor !}

The car makes 250hp standard. But without the restrictor, it justa about 100hp. Anyone know what this ristrictor is?

Ralliart used the DASH engine so I hear, that would of helped, less of a rooftop to hit when going for power increases.

The rally classes have restrictors for the air intake, I can't remember the exact details tho.

That power is quoted AT THE ENGINE not at the wheels :roll: Can't remember what size the FIA restrictor is. Ralliart did not use the DASH engine in GroupA.

32 mm round and 3 mm thick for the rally guys

improved production have a 36 mm restictor upstream of the inlet wheel
turbo and supercharged

the Group A I think were 36 mm also

christ that means if I tune out 352bhp out of the engine my starion will do 0-100 in 4.2 secs? correct me if i'm wrong

I think the Ralliart Starion was kind of lightweight tho
Had an LSD, and big fat ass race tyres.

Im guessing that helped the 4.2 :D

352 out of 8V is pretty impressive. I knew they got those sort of figures from the DASH motor in 1983 on the Group B, but never got to race it. I just assumed they'd reuse the motor in Group A. But they did well, very well indeed :D

I think you will find that when it comes to max power when effiency, driveability and a motor that only needs to run maybe 500ks from a rebuild, you can make lots of power.
Especially a turbo one.

Group A rallycar 350hp at the engine
Group A touring car about 400hp.

There were only minor differences with the engines which is why the rally cars were such pigs to drive with such a narrow powerband.

A complete factory groupA engine from HKS was about 25 grand.

FIA Group A is 34mm restrictor.

Yes and they started off way below 400HP in the early days of GroupA.

If I remember correctly, Starions held the top speed record for some time at Bathhurst. I have a book, I'll dig it up

I would have thought 274kph would take at least 350rwhp to acheive even with a downhill?

I would say 260 - 270 rwhp would be enough for 274kph on conrod
the starion would slip though the air better than a brick wall
entry speed to conrod is high and thats more than just a down hill

I can vouch for a 234km/h run down conrod straight, I had to brake for the chase after that.
