Dash Speakers

Post by madeofmilo »

Hi guys, I'm changing my stereo abit - anyways -
how big are the dash speakers 4inch?
How do you get to them, is it hard or not worth doing?

Cheers Dave
My JA has perfect motor - FMIC - forgies - high flow head but...rusted front guards and keyed on every panel. Time to get serious or time to take it to the tip.

You have to remove a shite load of under dash vents to get to them. A real pain in the backside.

I'd leave them there. What am I saying!? No I wouldn't. You know how much those things weigh?

i am deciding between the 'pain in the ass' factor vs weight loss.

If it's anything like a Scorpion (well, they look similar from the outside) then it's easier to take the whole dash out than even try to get to it under the dash..

Ahhh the challenges of audio installations, if you're replacing them it's worth the hassle in the end, as speakers today are no comparison to the paper cones of yester year.
I've been contemplating the same thing, replace or leave.
I decided on replace ( when the car comes back )
I enjoy music, and good speakers in the front helps to stage the sound better, though they are semi pointed at your feet ( not the best for sound quality  ).
In the end i guess it's a personal preference.
A little hassle, pain, sweat, cursing = audio enjoyment.

why not just use some 6.5's in the door with components sitting in some random fashion on the dash
Watch your speed - It's virtually impossible to pick it out of the carpet if it gets blown off the table.

Pull the dash out :) Or don't worry about it which would be my preferred option.

Your correct, the front left is easy, but the right is a real pain. The factory 4inch speaker JUST fits, i managed to put a tweater in there, but even that was a pain.

I have a spare dash, so i can take a pic to show you how tight it all is, or come around and check it out if you want.
