6G72 into Starion?

Post by JAS »

I can get a cheap 6G72M out of a 97 Diamante, 3.5, quad cam 24 valve.
Just wondering if anyone has put one into a RWD?
I have a Link computer to run it and would be looking at putting twin TD05-16G's on it as I already have a spare one.
I will probably buy it regardless as its so cheap.
I think the best gear box to use would be a Pajero 5 speeder.
Any thoughts???

She'd be an absolute rocket, i'd check how much the weight difference between the engines would be first though, you don't want to drive a fast boat anchor :)

That engine would fly. I know of a couple of Starions and a Sigma who have done this conversion already.

As for gearbox, try a Triton MK as you don't have to worry about the Pajero's transfer case. ;)

I'm doing the 6G72 from a 3000GT, using a Supra 6sp box and diff.

It all fits (with work).

there was a nice stazz/6g72 swap detailed on starquestclub earlier this year.... upgraded turbos on custom manifolds, polished bits, the works. Some guys apparently upset the dude and he edited all his posts.

If I ever gave up the 2.6L I will go v6. I like the way the sohc v6 24valve 3L motors run. Plentiful and cheap too. If z31 guys are getting 450 - 500hp/500tq by boosting bone stock n.a. 3L sohc 12valve motors, I'm wondering what the mitsu would do. Seen one stock nissan 3.3L truck motor hit ~700hp (turbo/microtech) before it let go during a drag race. Cant beat the smoothness, torque and exhaust note of a boosted 6. If the mitsu is anywhere near as tough as the nissan v6s I've witnessed...

But phil, how long has it been so far that you have been working on the 3000GTO engine? Last I saw you a couple a years ago, you were still working on it. Just wondering.

Phil,
How far have you got, do you have pics. rofl
Would love to see some pics of the mounts.
I cheaked out the mounts on my boss's Chalanger. but couldnt see to much as the exhurst was in the way.
If I go ahead I will be selling the 12valve that i was going to put in. I has been rebuilt with forged pistons. If anyone wants it let me know. I could sell it with computer and loom, It also has a TC06 and exturnal waste gate, strapped to the side.

quest: there is a guy on the 3si forum that has run an 11.3@130+ MPH in a FWD 3000GT using a big turbo on the NA block. From what I can gather, the Mitsubishi engines are very strong, on par with the 1J and 2J Toyota engines - just not as developed as them. Alot of the guys have turbo'd the NA engines with very good results.

That silver V6TT widebody Starion is pure porn. :o

thanks NX,
Sounds impressive.... I'll look it up. I'd plan to browse the net to see what kinda results boosted sohc v6 produce since they're used in a wide variety of u.s market cars, with bolt-on turbo and supercharger kits available for them.

Yep, that silver wb v6tt is very nice. When travelling around the southeast u.s., you run into all sortsa wierd swaps. Just about anything you can dream of, somebody's driving it. Lots of fwd to rwd conversions too. You hardly ever find guys on that level on internet forums tho.

To finish my V6 Starion will cost another $70-80k, I'm only going to do it once. The main hold up is waiting for the fabricators to fit me in for the rest of the cage.

I'm hoping to get it in early next year. On Track Engineering are doing the full cage, suspension, motor, gearbox and diff mounts etc.

Once that's done I'll fabricate the manifolds etc, then strip back down to the shell for painting.

I simply haven't time to do it in the past 2-3 years.

That's why I bought my white JA in Oct, just to have some fun. It too has gotten out of hand, GT30, MoTeC, 335mm discs, Alcon 4 pots etc. I hope to compete it by the end of January.
