No access to the list for 2 days???

Post by mrb1 »

Could not access the list for the last 2 days, both at home and at work. I use Swiftel ADSL at home not sure what we have at work. However I could access it using my Telstra ISDN?
Sounds like DNS problems again?
Only got through finally just now 12:45 Sydney time.

This is what happened last time a week or so ago.

I've been having problems accessing Austarion from home too. I'm on Optus cable at home. Pacific Internet at work is fine.

guys its definetly a dns issue. there is one way that i have proved this...record the IP of the austarion website by pinging the site from a working connection (ie, one that can access the page).

Record this value for later.

Take the value you have recorded and punch it into:

http://<ip address>/forums/index.php

If it is a DNS problem (proved this when i had issues a while ago) then this will work. If this does not work, use an annoymous proxy surfing program and try to access the page through this, if this works, then it is definetly a DNS problem. Otherwise, if you can access other pages and not austarion, contact your ISP and have a yell.

Unfortunately, this method does not work if the site is a Virtual Host. Most sites are nowdays, and Id imagine this is too. Serveral websites share IPs, so you enter the IP, and you'll go to the ISP's default website.

I have found in the past Ive had trouble with www.austarion.com however try using http://austarion.com directly, it always seems to work for me, the .com was a bit iffy sometimes though. You can use babelfish as a web proxy too btw :) Just set it to French to English or something, and since there is no french, babelfish downloads the website, changes nothing, and feeds it to your browser. Quite handy.

yeh thats true spiders web...however if you cant get to the isp's site either then it is going to give you a better indication of where the problem lies.

definetly a dns problem...not sure y ipspace is being singled out for hte bad dns updates...seems to be happening quite often now.
