dohc for the 2.6
i was just woundering if anyone knows if there are any DOHC heads that would fit the 2.6?
are there any doch heads that arent 6cyl?

Yeah we here in the US will give our left nut for a 16V DOHC head for our 2.6's
But like it was mentioned HKS DID make a small run of these stricly for Racing applications only and it was designed to be a NA engine model as turbos were not allowed in certain SCCA Road Racing classes. And as far as I kow Starion DID run and WIN a few of those NA races with the 16V engine.
A US member managed to get a hold of ONE of the two or three hads ever produced and he's working on making it work on the 2.6l as the 2.6 used was a TOTALLY different 2.6 than the one we use now. Basically Oil and water passages were different for the 16v model head not to mention all the chain and timing things.
So it IT DOES happen I will post here and all over the place.

No-one yet has found an off-the-shelf head that works on the 2.6.
Don't hold your breath for the HKS DOHC heads to ever get produced in the US. IMHO the market is far too small to spend $$ designing the heads & ancillaries properly. Sure lots of people want them but very few will be willing to hand over the US$2000-odd come crunch time. I know personally I'd love one but $2K buys a very high HP SOHC head.

I must agree with MrBishi.
The finished product IF FINISHED will be abouts US$1500.00 and like most Starion Owners most of us are just plain broke. And 1500.00 will buy alot of other mods that will justify the expence better.
But YEAH it will be nice, but t what price ?
Just get yourself a nice head and port the hell out it it, get a nice cam and oversized valves with HD Springs and you WILL be in bussiness. I actually gained aprox. 50HP from the head work alone, of corse I allready had freeflow exhaust, and intacke.

this forum gives me a headache.
i am absolutely certain someone previously said there were 2.6 dohc heads available.
a few years back, chosen motorsport (in bunbury) built a 2.6 scorpion with a dohc head, huge turbo and locker diff and it was painted orange
not sure what happened to it, but it woulda been one hell of a machine

dohc still doesn't stand between anybody and a fast car tho'. Here's what an 'enthusiast' can do; runs 10.8s in full weight daily driver 2.3sohc. Stock cast iron head ported by owner, and his first attempt at tuning his inexpensive standalone. $200 used truck turbo at that!

as for the 2.6 dohc head it would be nice even more so in N/A however as most starions are pumped up why not just go with a M6 magna casting with a 2.6 they flow well are cheap, cams are avalable as are other parts

Are you after a fast accelerating street machine, with a nice broad powerband that you don't have to rev the piss out of ?
Best starquestclub members I've seen have gone 11.2(no spray), 11.3(spray), 12.4 @15psi on a $600 turbo. Fast enough ?
As long as I've been into 2.6s, I've never seen anybody approach one as simple as the 2.3 link above. Its an inexpensive, well thought out recipee. Torque rules! You can get it 2 ways; displacement and boost.
I'm sure a 2.6 will do NO worse than that 2.3, same conditions

Ok, I owned a stock 2Ltr and found it didn't have too much torque. So I upgraded to an intercooler. After that I bought a 2.6 widebody and hell, I would NEVER go back to the 2ltr both for body and power. I LOVE the 2.6. The torque is amazing and the only reason I might go back is if I got a 2Ltr DOHC with my GT35 turbo, Haltech, and gave it more added bonuses in my widebody. But even then, I might not go back.
I have tried both the 2 and 2.6 and my oppinion is 2.6 all the way. If you havent tried it then try it.

Yes. I bought one. *slaps forehead* And yes, the torque is mamoth. But the engines just not as lively as the 2.0l, it feels lazy and the car feels uncoordinated. It's beyond me how anyone who is into the Starion who obviously loves driving, can step from such a well designed, well balanced good handling car into a cornering impared vechile with such a bland and boring rev range.MrBishi wrote:Ever driven a turbo 2.6? I'm not to sure of everyones age on this forum but the general vibe I've received about the 2.6 is generally the older generation that give them a go. I'm guessing due to the fact that more of you guys were bought up around V8's with all the bottom end. You enjoy more of a easier drive, rather than having to be on the gears and giving the revs to be moving fast?

Well I have the luxury (or pain) of having one of each. Both are registered so I can jump from one to the other.
I must say I have given this a lot of thought. The cars are so different to drive it's amazing.
I would agree with Glenjo the 2.6 feels lazy it has no engine acceleration (compared to the 2.0). However with the big turbo it now actually revs no problem, however it is a much harsher engine than the Sirius motor.
HOWEVER I have no idea what's inside until I do a rebuild next year. I know the stock flywheel is way too heavy so there is possibly potential for a big improvement with some better bits used.
My JA 2.0 has MPI which gives a punch down low while the 2.6 has TBI which always take a bit to get going.
I will reserve my final opinion until I fit the Magna MPI (soon) so I can do a fair comparison.
Around Eastern Creek the 2.6 tended to understeer on the tight slow corners (fast sweepers were fine), the 2.0 does not do that. There is a lot more weight over the front wheels with the 2.6.
The US guy's would not have any idea about this because they don't have 2.0 cars.
The 2.6 will make good power fairly cheaply, I am making around 300HP (at the engine) with 13psi!
Anyhow these are my observations rather than criticisms :roll:
