ECU pin descriptions ??

Post by Powerslave »

Guys , I now have the VELNAS working , except I need to tap 1 wire to the speed sensor (on the ECU or back of the dash) , and 1 wire into injector #2. Does anyone know which pins these might be on the ECU ??? (JA)

This *might* be of help, but it is from a later model car, so it may not be relevant. I used it to tap the error code wire on my 85 staz and all went well... helped me find out my map sensor was bung :).

Hey dude , thanks but that diagram is no good as far as the JA staz is concerned. I have already tried using it , but the "A" connector has different number of pins. I believe that diagram is from a JD , which uses a different ECU.

I have a pile of Starion stuff I've downloaded at work, will have a look for you tomorrow.

On another note...

If I cut A19, does that remove speed cut only, or about 100 other things?

I was told the Japanese models like mine had boost cut at 12psi, and speed cut at 180KPH - something to do with Japanese cars not being allowed to travel over this speed. But I am thinking you are correct here, I just did a search for 'Starion speed cut' and literally nothing came up.

I haven't been able to get over 150 because of boost creep (I hit 12psi at around 150 and the engine starts cutting, nice backfiring action)

that would be a fuel cut while ur overboosting there at 12psi. u don't wanna get rid of that otherwise u will probably run lean above ur fuel cut psi.

My 85 did over 200kmph without an probs, so i don't rekon there is a speed cut :)

Talk to Dave about the boost cut aswell, its not actually done on the manifold pressure, but when the injector duty cycle hits 50%, it starts cutting the spark to prevent leaning out... It wont always be at exactly 12psi... Thats why you can never get a straight answer out of anyone on exactly what pressure a starion starts cutting out at :D it varies so much.

i would be interested to here how a JA staz ecu manages to cut the spark, as there is no signal from the ecu to the igniter box that i am aware of.

I could be wrong, it could be a different sort of limiter, but i know my car backfires like crazy when it hits it.

I was told to remove the small pipe running from the air box to the firewall, by removing or cutting this pipe it disconnects the boost cut.

But I don't really wanna remove boost cut, don't think the TC05 was meant to be pumping over this :) I just wish it'd stop creeping up past 12psi.

I need to really hook up an actual boost guage, but I lost the cable/adaptor piece, so gotta find it again.

PS the computer I had the Starion docs on I was going to look at, is in pieces and having virus checks done, some of it is here:

http://www.starion.co.nz/docs

Have a look in there, dont look at the main website its old, crappy, out of date, and I should really just remove it.

I know that either the Starion or 4G63 manuals has heaps of wiring diagrams, hope this helps in some way.
