They look hot

How about black with blue numbers/marks?
I agree - I'd like a black face with the coloured numbers showing through at night. May be hard to read in daylight?

Ultrabright LEDs (lots and lots) + force lamps to be always on

That will make it readable during the day, but yeah would be unusual.

Kind of like those Khameleon CD players

If it was a black face with a light colour behind it (white, yellow, red, light blue etc), it should be fine and not require any change to your existing lighting.

A darker colour will as mentioned possibly require permanent lighting to stay visible at all times.. would look pretty cool though. I'll get some black done next week and play around - (gloss black? also what colour backing is preferred?)

Another way to upgrade the lighting (haven't tried it myself) - get some of that EL wire and run it around the underside of the numbers.

I'd reckon matt or satin black finish on the faces - similar to factory spec. Backing colour could be orange or light blue as you said.

Wouldn't orange be a bit too close to factory? :)

Actually if they were hard to see you could use a dark grey or gunmetal grey with coloured numbers... much like the ford XR instruments....

- Jap spec speedo sets (white) being cut now. Should get them tomorrow arvo. Red/blue/orange numbers.

- Satin black face sets getting done - can be done with orange, white or red lettering (can do others - that just what I have).

- Luminous green faces on order too - probably best with a white numbering.

Will post pics when done.
