I almost forked out the money also for the 3000GT, or I was going to go an eclipse, but I went with the widebody the moment I saw it.

Actually the weight IS the problem with the GTO/3000GT.
Sure the engine can put out a lot of power, but that doesn't really help you around corners, or on a long winding road. The weight can really be felt when asked to change directions quickly. Even the brakes can't cope with the weight for very long at all.
At more than 1700kgs, it really needs to go on a drastic diet.
Gorgeous looking car though.
