Blonk Blonk Blonk BOOM!!! - Please help.

Post by madeofmilo »

I just got my motor rebuilt and worn in - anyways I over took a truck as the speedo reach 160km/hr - blonk blonk blonk then BOOM.

I thought maybe its not getting enough fuel?

Anyways also under boost say 5k revs if I change a puff of smoke comes out the back. I took it back to the mechanic (shit head **cough**cough**) and told him. He took it for a drive and said yeah thats not cool. Then we poped the hood and oil was pushed up the pipe to the left of the motor (facing the car) pressure pipe or something and he said it was back pressure from something - anyways he said it was an electrical breakdown...has anyone had any experience such as this - or is this guy just as dodgy as I think he is and done a crap job.

Hmm... very interesting...

I've heard of powerful engines getting blow-by... It is where pressure for the combustion chamber is forced past the piston and rings and pressurises the sump. I wonder what the compression is like? And if they used the correct rings and ring clearances...?
I'm wondering if the sump has some sort of breather?

It might be busted.

Get a leakdown test... You might have shattered the ring lands.

I've seen engines fail after a little hard work shortly after reconditioning before.

See if the oil cap jitters at idle when loosened (but not removed).

Yeah my Starion when it was running, would get up to 150 then go BANG and throw black smoke. I thought it was overboosting, but boost was fine.

Took it to a mechanic, and after some tests said it had an 'excessive blowby problem'

It would happen when the engine was under load on full throttle and boost for longer periods of time e.g. overtaking. I could also do it by changing to 3rd gear early, flooring it, and letting the boost slowly come up, by about 5000rpm it'd bang.

I'm taking it to the mechanic tommorow. I'll keep you guys posted as to what needs to be done etc :D - then you can check the WTB section as I beg for cheap parts.

Cheers Dave
