Curfew for P-Platers? No.

But i do believe that P-platers should be restricted as to what sort of car they can drive. As in, power restrictions, and perhaps engine size restrictions.
Say for example; no greater engine power than 90kw, and no greater engine size than 1.6L.

There are too many moron, Turbocharged/V8 powered P-Plate drivers out there!

After all, there are restrictions to motorcycle riders as to how big their first bike can be, why not for car drivers too?

I agree with the engine size comment, that would be easy to police, but for anyone who has read my article, how are the cops meant to gauge the power of your car when they are standing next to it? Its not mandatory for you to get a dyno run done to find out the power and there really is no quick way to find out unless the cops are carrying rolling dynos with them...lol

It just doesnt make sense to slap us with another legislation when the current ones arent being enforced correctly. If they enforced the current speeding and drink driving, etc rules more effectively, it would have a two fold effect of not only making the roads safer, but it would also help prevent the other 80% of accidents which arent cause by p platers.

Save 2 birds with one stone.

If they bring in power restrictions and i have just finished modifying the starion i am going to be oooo so shitty with the government. :P

The easiest way to do that is to compile a list of cars they cant own or drive.

Then you put every decent car on the list and leave them with a choice of
a) a 1970 Mazda 1500 (automatic only)
b) a Lada 4WD
c) a Morris Minor 850.

That should put them in their place and show them what growing up is about the little mongrels. Not that I have anything against them but ...
Death to P Platers rofl

Yeah so just say they put engine restrictions for p-platers. A mate of myne in his stock 87kw lancer 4dr can still clock 180-190 kp/h.. that doesnt help those ppl, does it?... he wont learn untill he learns the hard way.
And another mate (ex-mate) just got his licence, a 88' HSV astra, and he did a advance driving course. Because of this he is totally up himself with his driving. One day i was sitting at some shops to see him try and show off by doing a hand brakey past the shops and he went straight into a parked ute. He done some cronic damages to his car and he has passnegers in the car. 2 weeks later he took a corner to fast with a m8, my g/f, and him in the car and he ran off the road and rolled the car 3 times into a tree. All three ended up in hospital.... I feel that the advance driving course he did gave him to much confidence and he felt he was king shit because of it.

My personal opinion is not to allow red p-platers to hae passengers (exept parents etc) in the car. at any time.

On the other note. I have been on my red p's for 18 months (they expire next week :P) and i have never had a accident (other than reversing into a tree in the middle of the night at a mates joint rofl ). When ever i have the urge to do something stupid i go to the middle of knowwhere where there isnt any pedestians or passangers and i go for it. But i got over all that, it doesnt mean i dont have a quick car or anyting.. because i do. four of my cars so far have been boosted and i am probably one of the most sensible "p" platers around... i think most of this p - plater stupidity is peer pressure so if there was a passenger limit that would probably help... sorry it that makes no sence as im half asleep at work :P, also may i add i worked out that over the 18mths i have had my p's i have done around 120,000kms between my cars.. i dont meen to sound up myself or nuthing. :beer

Passenger restrictions are the only real way of preventing stupidity amongst P-platers due to peer pressure under 25s' or 30s' put on the driver

true...i used to be opposed to passenger limits...but i can see their positive side now... but maybe not no passengers at all...one passenger would be ok imho as i kno that i am a sensible driver and often act as designated driver to take one friend home from a party...

lol good points there...and the power restrictions are so true...it doesnt matter if u say p platers cant drive cars over 95kw or whatever...they will either find a way around it, or still kill themselves with a slow car. My echo cruises easily at 120 on the freeway along with the rest of the traffic and ide b suprised if i hit a wall at that speed and didnt die.

Personally on the driver education program, i think it is better for a driver to be cocky and have skills than be cocky and thinks they have skills. teach them to brake, itll save their lives...not advanced driving courses, just defensive driving courses.

Nuclear genocide - thats my final offer on the subject. Automatic nuclear holocaust at the counter of any RTA office when some measly juvenile goes in and says "I want to drive sir, give me a licence". The word will soon spread amongst the yunguns that getting a licence is bad for their health.

It will save on public spending as we wont need to build bigger, wider roads as there will be less cars, and what roads there will be can be used by more us experienced drivers to fang around on, without fear of having our point to pint times interrupted by P Platers honing thir new found mobility. :D

anyone under the age of 25 should be permanently wrapped in cotton wool and kept in a box until they are 25, the road toll will reduce dramatically.

with all these problems and such i think there is a gap of people ~25-30 cause from what i read in the newspapers without these new restricions and stuff they would all be dead.
