Ok Heres the Story part 2 (Must read Pt 1 first)

Post by Darkelf »

So are we sitting comfortably? Now I'll begin.

Now where were we.......Oh yes..."It'll bolt straight on" was the cry from the blue furry one and the turbo was at Cromer Exhausts having a special adaptor made to connect to the IC piping.....Hmmm

So arrangements are made to visit the blue furry one to get assistance with the fitting of the aforementioned "It'll just bolt on, go on man" turbo on the Sunday.

So we rock up to Cromer exhausts to collect the turbo plus nice new connector and.......the nice gorilla behind the desk says "sorry mate had too much work on. Couldn't do your connector. Can you come back next week?"

But, but I says I've made arrangements with the blue furry one and he must be obeyed. "Tough" says the gorilla!

"Arse" says I. Rings Cookie. Brrring, Brrrring, Brrring. "Cooks I can't make it tomorrow any chance of next week?"

"Nah mate. Sorry the MISSUS says I have spent too much time playing with cars recently and I gotta be a good boy" LOL

"Arse" says I again. Turbo is really blowing smoke badly by now and needs fixing big time!

"Arse" says I again who the hell knows enough about these cars to supervise me pulling this turbo off?

*Lightbulb comes on* Aha of course the wizard of the N.Beaches. Merlin!

Rings Merlin Brrrring Brrrring Brrrring "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaave. Any chance of any help with this Just Bolts Straight on Turbo"

"Hmmmm" says the wizard. "Tell me about it"
"Hmmmm" says the wizard. "Not sure about that. Bring it up and we'll have a look at it."

Sooooooooo the following weekend we rock up to Merlins abode. "G'Day O Oracle" I says. "Whatcha reckon on this?" I says as I hand him the aforementioned turbo. It apparently "Bolts straight on. Go on man"

"Hmmmm" says the wizard "Don't know about that" Lets rip your old one off and we'll give it a go"

So under direct supervision I duly unbolt this and unscrew that. With much a fark, shite and arse and a "how the fark, does this come off?" to achieve the ultimate dream of a brand new, non smoking , all powerful "It'll just bolt on, Go on man" turbo!

So we get the old one off........Hmmm the bolt holes match up maybe it will "Just bolt on. Go on man"

We pull the exhaust housing off the TC06 and place it over the TD05H. (The idea is to make a fast spooling hybrid.)
Hmmmm that looks a bit loose. (There is a full centimetre clearence between the wheel and the housing!!!!

"Arse" says I. It won't bolt straight on" Picks up phone and rings the blue furry one. Brrrring, Brrrrring, Brrrrring..."hello" comes the voice. "Arse" says I. It won't bolt straight up" explains story. "Well" comes the answer "technically it will. So I was right *Grin*

Fortunately I have a couple of spare turbos in a box.
lets try this TD06....Nope thats too big
lets try this TC05....Nope thats too small

"Arse" says I. What the hell do I now with this $650US turbo.

So we put the old TC06 back on.

The TC05 nearly fits but the TD05 16G impellor wheel is too big.

"I know" says the wizard. "I have a die grinder in the shed. We'll grind the TC05 housing out with it and make it fit.........

I feel sorry for you, it would have been cheaper to buy the EvoIII 16G complete for that much shipped EMS and the chance of bent fins would have been close to null

What do I have to do guy's :( All the pics are on my web site. The TD05H wheel is about 2mm bigger on the exducer (the inducer is the same as a TD05/TC05) than a TD05/TC05. There is no way it's going to work in a TC06 exhaust housing. You will have to get a US 2.6 TD05 housing and machine it out (not exactly plentiful in OZ). Unless you want to put on the small TC05 housing and machine it out (what a waste).

What actual turbo did you get any pics? Is it only the compressor connection to the intercooler pipe that's the problem? That seems not a big deal?

Well that was worth the wait

So if I read you correctly you cant get your TC05 exhaust housing to match your TD05 compressor housing as the TC06 exhaust wheel is too small for your TD06 compressor wheel. Or is that the TD05 com housing mismatches the TD06 wheel and that doesnt fit the TD05 exhaust housing because the TC05 exh wheel isnt big enough for the TC06 housing. Or is just that the whole thing doesnt fit. Have you tried installing it turned around 180 deg and see if that makes a difference.

I dont think blaming Cookie is the way here Kelfy, you do know that to him you are just a human experiment waiting to be commenced, so you must have gone in with your eyes open matey. :D

Also, whats this about die grinders and all that fancy malaka. Why not just use the big hammer.

If all this ends happily will you end up with a TCD56 turbo? :D

BTW - love the story telling Kelfy, very entertaining. Keeps the reader focussed and attentive for the next step. Grammar good, spelling excellent, use of quotes to describe steps is creative. Score is 8.5/10.

Well done. :beer

Hang on Mark, I thought you knew nothing about the TD05 16gs. Wern't you recently asking for pics of the TD05 turbo as you wanted an idea of what it looked like?

Toys,

You misunderstand Sydney-Starion-speak. When someone here says "it will fit" we actually mean "we can make it fit, it just depends on the size of the hammer required and whether we have access to said community hammer on the day".

Also Kimmy just believes what we tell him so sometimes we just mess with his mind :D

We love him dearly, and anyways once he has worked out how to make this type of turbo fit a Starion, then we will all know and it will be a LOT EASIER for the rest of us. Kinda view him as a "groundbreaker" if you like (or experiment). rofl

its realy not that hard doing experimental staz work with Kim,
once you get used to the swearing! :o
Dunno what the neighbours think though...
Keep in mind, two years ago he would not consider attacking his baby.
These days, show him the tools, point and grunt, and he's away.

I never said it WILL fit. I said it SHOULD fit. Then I qualified that with "just buy the TD05 exhaust housing (which was available) if it doesn't fit."

But it is fun messing with Kelfy. I like making him say ARSE!
