but i got a mate who wants an SR in an old RX, just wondering if this guy can give him a rough idea on price.
i think from memory this guy was out in Geelong. does anyone have his number?

Yeah, I've got an SR20DET in a Starion. It's a relatively straight forward swap but it's still a lot more expensive and a lot more trouble than some other options. I had specific requirements and I got it all at the right price.
When you say old RX do you mean an old RX2 or an old Suburu RX turbo? Either way I wouldn't think an SR20 is the way to go. If he's got a Suburu RX turbo he should just drop an EJ20 turbo into it, if he's got an old RX2 then he should drop a 13BT into it. I've put a 13BT into an RX7 (two actually) and I highly recommend this upgrade - but he will need to upgrade the brakes because I cracked a rotor on mine.

Nah into an old RX7, i dont know the model number, its the one that came out round the same era as the staz. and he wants an SR because his parents may be funding some of the project, and dont want a rotor due to fuel consumtion and rebuilds. Also SR's with their mass aftermarket support, easy to extract power etc etc.

SR20 into RX7 is a bad idea. The rotor is very short so weight is behind front axle, SR20 is quite long and quite tall. It will put a lot of weight over the front wheels and may not even fit under the bonnet (13BT with intercooler only barely fits).
Tell your mate not to worry about fuel consumption and rebuilds. My stock 13BT, untouched, won the rotary class burnout comp at the summernats. Also did a lot of track work and it was fine - you just need a good radiator and good oil cooler to keep fluid temps low. Fuel consumption is on par with SR20DET.
My RX7 with 13BT, microtech, 9psi, 3inch exhaust, water/air intercooler and LSD run 0-100kmh in 5.0sec, 400m 13.0sec, top speed 273kmh. It was very, very fast!
If your mate hasn't driven a turbo rotor before then I suggest he test drive one. They are a completely different beast to a standard rotor. Mine would hold a 3rd gear burnout at 1800rpm and had more torque than many V8s.

i'd have to agree with mr sanchez on that one my mate was going to attempt the same thing but when all was measured out was a bit of an ass pain. The latest fast fours had a sr20 into early rx7 but looked like a bit of hassle. Doing suspension balancing was a necessity cos of the balance changing.
Also what's with people assuming rotors suck heaps of fuel and need rebuilds all the time. I've been around rotors all my life and know all you need to do to keep them alive and well is get rid of the heat effectively and not run crazy rough hi power maps that screw up fuel economy. I know plenty of hi-po srs that have considerably worse fuel usage than rotors that are considerably more powerfull. Remember by it's nature a rotor engine is more eficient at using it's fuel than a piston engine.

I agreed with most of what you said except this bit - yes, they don't use energy in having to reverse the direction of a reciprocating mass like a pitson engine, but the fact that the effective combustion chamber is really long means that there is a lot of surface area to radiate heat into, meaning they are less thermally efficient than a piston engine. I agree with sticking with the rotor for the RX7. Its not worth re-inventing the wheel for this one.
