yeah i'm still researching at the moment, but there not exactly in the featherweight category are they?
Are u absolutely sure they weigh that much?
The other thing i'm not sure about is the funny seat belt thing.
i'm tossing up between an st165 gt4 celica or the tough lookin widebody staz. The gt4 is 4wd and weighs less.

Some sources say that the 165 weighs 1350, some say 1100kgs. But I do know that the widebody (US spec) weighs what I quoted above. (See http://www.starquestclub.com/index.pl?a ... oc=history for weights quoted).I do believe that the Jap-spec weighs a bit less due to less options like leather and those seat belts, etc.
I have researched widebody for quite a while and will eventually get one.

ST165 GT4 is definately closer to the 1350kg mark. I imagine the limited rally editions were much lower (which Ive seen for sale around here a few times).
More importantly, the Starion's engine placement, and RWD setup, makes it quick through the turns. GT-Four's tend to just, not turn, and understeer. I do know people that have learned the art of GT-Four on tarmac, but its definately not pretty, and the tyres dont like it neither.
4WD is good for drag or rally, but Im not fond of it for much else. If you are going drag or rally, the EVO Lancer is lighter and performs better. But then I guess it comes down to availablity. ahh choices choices

Thanx for the info guys.
I'm looking for a street car with some days on the track. The st165 has parts available from the st162 and st185.
If i get the staz i'll have to up the power output because of the weight. I'm thinkin sr20. Also parts don't seem to as available.
Spidersweb, i think u r getting confused with the st185 which came in the limited rally editons, and apparently the standard 185 have more understeer.
NXtIME, this article says the weight is 2828 lbs

Yeah with the rally editions I was talking about the ST205
But the understeer issue was related to the ST165, as my friend had one up north. Still fast, but Starion would be much quicker through the turns.

I have a starion with an SR20DET and I'm in Canberra too. If you are going widebody then you will probably get a 2.6l, the big engine can be made to make good horsepower and so it's probably not worth the trouble of going with an SR20 conversion.
If you are going to do track work you are better off getting a standard narrowbody starion or a silvia/180sx. They are both better balanced and much stronger than the GT4. If you've got $10k to spend you could buy a wickedly quick starion for that.

There may be differences between the 1986-7 and 1988-89 cars' weight. Also, other options available might be the cause of the difference in weights. JA/B's weigh around the 2800 lb mark and the widebodies had more options and gizmo's so they definitely weigh more than that. Either way, you could put one on a diet and lose a few kilos ;)yeeeehah wrote: NXTIME, this article says the weight is 2828 lbs
