Engine suggestions?

Post by fr335tyl3r »

Hey all,

Lets just say...that i have 10,000 to blow on the starion engine at the moment...lol source of this cash is not to be revealed :) But yeh, what modifications do you think I should look at? I was thinking of a VR4 conversion with MPI and a TD06 or similar but ive been workin my backside off lately so havent had much time to think about it. All sugestions welcome, except for selling the staz, lol

I know I'll get abused hardcore for this but anyway...
With 10k I'd look at a smaller bore Lexus V8 with a supercharger...yes I know chringe chringe...

Or a 3L supra motor (chringe chringe) but supra's go HARDCORE. In a lighter staz would be nice...

Or even better...this would be nice....the BA XR6 Turbo motor with an XR8 box...that would be insane!!!

Or my personal favourite...the 1.5L motor from a '95 Lancer (crap on preformance...great on fuel :P) hahahahaha!

IMHO - thats what I'd do :P

Cheers Dave

i'm a huge fan of lexus v8's, even stock they make some really good horsepower and the bottom end is strong enough to withstand heaps of mods, there's a twin turbo'd version floating around in an RA28 body that runs low 9's (last i heard, probably better by now) with a stock bottom end.

that said although they aren't big for a v8 they are bigger than your stock engine. a mate of mine spent a fair bit of time (didn't lose any money, did all the work himself) dropping one into a series 6 rx7. had it in there with a manual gearbox conversion and engine mounts all done but had major issues with the steering, basically the steering rods wanted to go through the top of the sump/bottom of the block and after a month or two of trying different ideas he got pissed off, sold off the engine and stuff and spent the money on a pretty potent 13B combination.

it would be worth looking into but i'd do some serious measuring first.

at least with the 1jz/2jz you know its been done before.

personally i'd just go with a good vr4 combo though. heaps of power available and its been done which means that the stupid little things you don't think of won't blow out your budget to huge amounts.

cheers
Matt

I would be sticking with the VR4 Setup aswell, just set-up the turbo and capacity around your project aim with the Supra 6-speed box and a nice differential to suit :D.......but $10K will be cutting it close after the head modified, camshafts, exhaust, fmic, piping, inlet/exhaust manifolds and EMS are done :x But if you get quotes from various pro-workshops on doing the WHOLE job, then you will easily get a good price/quote for the work and close if not under $10K.
