GTR PCD is 5 x 114.3 with a +30 offset. GTS has an offset of about +40.

Thank ye sir. i do believe they would be sitting very much inside the guards at that offset, possibly fouling on suspension or something.. damn.
Widebody wheels... oh drool. Flatbody with Rolled arches and widebody rims.. hmmm...

5 stud to allow for better mag choice? or is there other reasons for doing this?

Because im an elitest, and i want 5 stud, because all the cool starions have it. Yes, better mag choice, but it will also make fitting a widebody LSD less complicated.

I have 16 x 8" (215 rubber) and 9"wheels (245 rubber) with +40 offset on my JA Starion, but the front's needed 10mm spacing to clear the strut. The rears cleared by 1 mm or two.

Varies depending on the wheel width. There are two sets, standard and those that came with the sports handling package on the 88/89's.
Std:
Front 7" is +18
Rear 8" is -10
SHP:
Front 8" is +18
Rear 9" is 0

Bigger Brake setups are often found behind 5 stud wheels too,
but for most people here the reason is better mag choice heh.
Thats not to say you can't have big brakes on a 4 stud pattern, just saying its more common on 5 stud.
Cheers
