I'm not 100% sure which motor you're talking about but it's possibly similar to what is used in a speedway class. They are basically a big block v8 cut in half (more or less). I drove an LA lancer (850odd kg) with an NA EFI 2.6 for ages. I then upgraded to the JB. Stock JB vs worked 2.6 LA would be fairly even to roughly 80kmh where the Starion would leave it for dead. So in summary an n/a 2.6 Starion would be slow as shit. Save your money for a turbo upgrade - it's harder to ungrade the car you drive around.

That's exactly correct! 'Astron' series (chain drive cam) or 'Sirus' (belt drive cam) series engines. The Sirus engine replaced the Astron engine however they were manufactured at the same time for quite a while.MrBishi wrote:Different series of motor. I am using a Magna head, goes straight onto sigma block.
That way i can use the magna EFI gear(although late model astron II's have same head as early magna, but finding one of those in wideblock its lots harder that early sigma stuff).
Also magna head has larger ports, bigger valves and larger combustion chamber than early sigma.
Magna head straight onto early sigma with dished pistons(astron2 an magan uses flat tops) gives about 6:1, shave 3mm off and you got about 9.5:1. I guess for turbo application taking about 1-2mm off would be jsut about perfect for turbo.
As for sigma turbo it was actually the first aussie built turbo car. Woulda been 1981 GH i think and they made 500 of them.

Yea i drive a lightly worked 2.6 32/36 weberd galant. The starions is just gonna be my new daily for a while, but i plan to keep the galant goin, infact the starion was so that i could go crazy upgrading the galant :)MrBishi wrote: Karl,

another way to get your engine wired up is to buy Just the wiring harness from Wolf, you can do this then buy the computer later on when you can afford it. then just plug it in. the harness will only be around $100. check out their web site.
I have an old Zoom magazine that featurs a scorpion with a 2.6ltr, magna injection and all the trick bits that go with it. If you want it PM me your postal address

it said the block was built from scratch.... you wouldnt wana get to close to those chargers coz they'll suck in both arms an ur head at full boost...it was running 55psi....

Well what do you know, times have changed again! Recently scored my a datsun to run around in to use as a daily driver. One '88 Nissan Pintara GXE. So it looks like the starion wont be following my previous plan.
Instead it will be either going hard with 2.6T, or not going at all :)

2.6 Astrons are great motors. I used to drive a GH Scorpion with an Astron 2.6, and it had plenty of torque.
However, the worst thing about these motors is the timing chain. When I first bought my Scorpion, it needed the timing chain replaced, $650! :o
When the timing chain goes on a 2.6, you just throw the motor in the bin and start again. Sure they are cheap enough, but changing motors is a pain in the ass! When the timing belt broke on my Staz, I simply replaced it, and was back on the road again. Belt cost $22.
One thing is for sure, no matter what motor you have, if it's SOHC, it has a lot more low down torque than the same size motor in DOHC.
That won't stop me from throwing an Evo motor in my JB though. :D

2.6 has the balls, gav's old one/mine now made 303hp @14psi with magna head, haltech, t04, zaust, cooler, cam etc. Apparently the stock bottom ends can handle quite a bit of hammering too. In my opinion go for it, you will have a smile from ear to ear first time you drive it:) believe me!
WHy drag the pathetic excuse for a turbo setup as the sigma suck through carby? any idea how much of a bad idea that setup was. your car can catch on fire at the drop of a hat, if you flood the carby the turbo fills with petrol, you backfire and you can damage the turbo.
I know the stock starion injection setup is bad, but the sigma setup was worse, and only 2 years apart in technology.
Im happy mitsubishi australia had the balls to make a turbo sigma, but seriously, if you are going to turbo PLEASE do it right

I have a 2.0 Starion JA and 2.6 Starion (Conquest). The driving experience is completely different. The 2.6 (in it's current spec) at the moment makes 10 HP more at the wheels. However the 2.6 is all about torque but it revs to 6000 no problem at all.
The 2.6 lacks a bit of engine acceleration compared to the 2.0.
Which is faster, don't know haven't lined them up together.
I am waiting until I put the big turbo on the 2.6 before I make a final statement.
A VR4 engine will make more power ultimately but 2.6 parts are cheap as @#$$ you can get a full set of forged turbo pistons for $700 AUD.
The 2.6 is a bit heavy so for a track car maybe there's a downside there.
I wouold buy a starion, but i dont like the engines, i have read on this forum for quite a while now and i have been scared ff them quite frankly, hence the supra in afew months.
If i could say buy a stazza with a supra gearbox, and with that VR4 head/pistons/turbo/etc on it i would buy it, but the fact is if i was to do it myself it would entail many $$ for such an old car...
