yeah well you have a point, there is a limited choice of kits and wheels, but theres not a limited choice of colours. theres also a difference between making your car the way you like it and copying other peoples things/ideas. take the last couple of threads ProZac has started for example:

"Painting car, need pics of "Kon's" starion."

"Door skins, ideas please people."

"Rice gauge mouting idea."

does this seem like someone making their car the way they want it or copying other peoples cars/ideas??

another thing, theres also a difference between someones saying "hey i like your car" and "hey i like your car where did you get the kit from.. anyone wanna do a group order? we can have every starion in australia with the same kit"

oh and ProZac if you want to make your car exactly the same as Kon's just as Mr Mark he knows exactly what yellow it is.
If you lend someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably well spent. Image

Greg: I would love to do it silver, but my father and i will be painting it, and a metallic colour probably isnt a good choice for a couple of amatuers. I love how yellow sets off the angles and lines, plus it will be good for hiding imperfections, because try as i would like, its never going to be as good as a professional job. One day in the future however.... I am going top purchase one of Jason's front lips, and i already have the aerotech 3 piece rear :).

Now, starionboy, thank you for bringing up the threads i've posted recently. I was under the impression this board was a place for sharing thoughts, collaborating ideas and getting inspiration. Im sorry for being an active member of this board, and enjoying the time i spend reading here.
I have drawn inspiration for how i want my starion to look from almost every prominent members' car on this forum, yours included. At the end of the day I'm building a car for myself, and no one else, so if i see something i like on another persons car, by golly-gee-gosh im going to replicate it on mine.
I enjoy reading responses to my threads and hearing other peoples ideas. 2 heads are better than one as the saying goes. I rekon it'll be nice to look at my car, pick a specific detail and remember how that came about, and think of the person/people that helped the process. Everytime I'll look at the 'austarion' sticker on my car i'll think of the great minds on this forum and be thankful starions have such a strong following.

Just for the record I wasnt trying to upset anyone - its just bloody hard to "improve" a Starion with the limited number of choices and Ithink there is a huge choice of colours out there but some just dont sit right on a Starion. Yellow obviously does coz its fairly popular.

I know its difficult to come up with something original and I guess at the end of the day I would not be happy if someone copied my car directly and then posted up saying "look at my car", when all they have done is directly cloned mine.

But I dont think Prozac is doing that - he's just looking for some ideas and to get some thoughts happening.

BTW -Prozac, have you considered that Lemon/Lime colour that Ford have out at the moment. I almost did the track car in it, with some black based highlights to set it off.

Cheers guys
Greg

I have to admit StarionBoy your car has the most distinctive look to it of any starion on this forum. You have truly thrown convention to the wind and come up with a style that nobody here has managed to emulate, and even if they did manage to for a while, they would quickly paint over it because everywhere in their travels people will yell "Look at him! He's copying StarionBoy! Why don't you make the car the way YOU want it?".

Did you ever think that perhaps someone might copy an idea they have seen on someone else's car because it IS "the way they want it"? Or is that just not comprehensible, can no two people appreciate identical concepts? This aside, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU CARE WHEN ZAC LIVES THOUSANDS OF KMS AWAY?!

I'd love to see your reaction to the pics here:

Wantsom - Sure have, ive considered every colour that ford is using at the moment, as they have some real pearlers (pun intended, although crappy). For a long while i was dead set on the gun-metal metallic they have... But practically i just wouldnt be ables to do a decent job of painting this colour, and i'll assume its friggin expensive.

Jrod - OMG, they all have bonnet scoops!!! Whatever shall we do! ;)

..or something to that effect. "Why would someone buy a red starion when another red starion exists" etc.

your not very smart are you jrod :wtf: your missing the hole point. Its not that theres a heap of red cars so dont paint your car red, its the stand out cars like the yellows, orange, greens uno what i mean, people want to be different!!
people dont want to do there cars up so that others just copy them its all about who can have the best car not who can mod theres the same.

now if anyone can make sense out of that mumbo your doing well :D

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

If someone asked me if they could copy my car and make one exactly the same then that would be fine.. I'd say go for it and good luck.

damn right.....

theres nothing wrong with taking a good idea and replicating it.... what matters is why your doing it, theres only one person that has to be happy with the finished result and thats the owner....

im going to be 'copying' some ideas from a car on this forum, and if the owner hadnt wanted me to do it then i would simply have looked at other options.

realistically(sp) we are all spread so far aprt that most of us will never see each others car in the flesh so its not as if there will be heaps of clones around...
oz, here i come....
