JD Starion Injectors

Post by Noel »

One of my injectors in my JD Starion is apparently stuffed. Being a relatively rare car I have not been able to track down a replacement. Does anyone know where I could find one, or if there is some alternative I can use ?

JD Injectors

Thanks for the reply, your help is appreciated.

What is entailed in upgrading the injectors ?. My mechanic gave me the impression that to change the actual injectors would involve a huge amount of stuffing around (including wiring) and would probably cost a fortune.

He also indicated that the injectors currently on the car are quite high pressure and that there did not appear to be any alternatives that could be used.

JD injection system will require JD injectors. You can forget Repco or Rare Spares stocking them. Either Mitsubishi or find some 2nd hand ones

Injectors.

Hi Noel,

Your mechanic is mistaken. JD injectors work at 3bar - just like all other injectors. Perhaps he meant high flow rate?

JD Injectors are pretty large - you will have trouble finding something equivalent.

Are they grey-top or black-top?

Black will take JB injectors. There are a few around. Grey is JD only - a little harder to find.

The problem is that different injectors require different ECI maps, so you might end up having to install an aftermarket EMS if you go for different injectors.

Dave,

You are correct, he did refer to flow not pressure. The injectors are the grey JD ones so I could be in trouble finding one.

You mentioned replacing the injectors and ECU, but at a rough guess, this would be quite an expensive exercise ?. I get the impression that it would require a large amount of rewiring ?

Thanks for the replies folks, keep it up.

You can pick up 2nd hand (aftermarket) computers for around $700 - $800, for a new one ur looking at $1200 - $2500.
Wiring can be hard or easy, depending on how good a job you want. I used the main wiring harness, which all i had to do was use the wiring diagram and join the correct wires. The alternatives are get a pre-terminated harness and plug and pray, or rewire it completely yourself.
Then there's tuning... allow a few hundred dollars on the dyno.

All up your looking at alot of money, time and effort. But it is worth it in the end. :D

Keep searching, there must be someone out there who knows where to get an injector :o

Are they available from Mitsubishi any more?? (considering you can still get brand new front bumpers...)

Steve.
