Speed camera backlash

Post by Will »

Check out what's happening in the UK with speed camera's. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing things like this here.

http://www.speedcam.co.uk/index2.htm

Let me rant a little here:

A guy where I work was booked for 54km/h in a 50 zone. I think this is ridiculous and here's my reasoning:

When the RTA posts a speed zone, they would put some sort of safety margin in the speed that they declare. ie. They would not declare a 50 zone on a road where 50km/h would be right on the edge or upper limit of safe speed.

Therefore, I should be allowed to drive at exactly 50km/h and know that it should be a safe speed for the stretch of road. However, cars that travel at 50km/h will alway have some variance in speed due to inclines, wind direction etc. Now unless we spend the whole time watching the speedometer, we will get some speed variation. If I can be booked for doing 4km/h over, then the law is effectively saying i should watch the speedo and not the cars around me, or the pedestrians using the street..... i wish the safety issues were dealt with rather than just the speed issues.

Its too late for that person, he already copped that one on the chin.

What brought this rant on is the fact that I know two other people and possibly a third that has copped speeding fines in the last 2 weeks. None of which I would call a hoon, or a habitual speeder.

I don't condone speeding, but when everyone is copping fines, it kind of waters down the meaning of speeding fines/points. I don't condone vandalising cameras either, but when things become that oppressive, things like this don't surprise me.

i agree, exept for 40 zones, they should have 2 or 3 times the penalty they are now.

Back here in Iceland you woul have to travel at 64km/h on a 50km/h zone to get a ticket, so to get a ticket you would have to travel at 10km/h over the limit and the other 4km/h are just how accurate the radar readings are

the only ticket i have ever got was for goning 101km/h in a 50km/h zone and the ticket i got was for around AU$780. Tihs happend at work and i deliver pizzas

got done on friday 80 in a 60 zone, was testing the car after fideing around with it. Flew past them tried to get away to the back of my mates house but was un succesfull as they saw me turn in and followed me down the driveway. Tried to say my freind was driving but they didnt but it. So im on disqualification for atleast 12mounths (decied upon in court ) as i was driving whilst suspended due to fine defaults.

Saw the speed camera on Blaxland Rd in Ryde burnt to a crisp a year or so ago. :beer

Within a week it was back - with a security camera and huge light to watch over it.
