hahah i was wondering who would mention this first. maybe have a list of all the stuff that needs to be done for the conversion?

custom exhaust manifold
change the entrance to the throttle body
add remote thermostat
push back firewall
custom intercooler pipes
vr4 head
injectors
throttle body
inlet manifold
AFM
computer (either vr4 or aftermarket ECU)

now edit this to fix up what ive missed, make it a sticky and let us not mention it again :)

ok, to those that dare. this should be the first and only vr4 conversion thread! so constructive comments welcome. other threads can be started on specifics such as one peice of mod at a time *massaging firewall" or "adding remote thermostat" but not another overall vr4 conversion topic please! All non constructive comments will be deleted by a mod ( i hope! ) :P

Post by starion84 »

does anyone know if the starion sump will fit onto the vr4 motor and how it would go for oil pickup?
also would the starion water pump fit on a vr4 motor?
and were called i get a vr4 engine managment wiring diagram from? (so i can attemp to wire up the standered vr4 computer)

If you have the standard wiring loom (galant) and are using standard( galant) sensors, injectors ect then you sould be able to just plug them all in. Most of the plugs would be different so you cant get the wrong plug in the wrong socket.
You may need to check on the diagram for injector colour codes, wouldnt want then pulsing out of whack

diagram

Post by starion84 »

yeah i thought so to but when had a look some plug in but the wire colors dont match eg. if i sit the wiring on it runs over the injectors and down the front of the manifold where the coil packs are, now theres a plug on the loom that sits just the right position for coil packs and plugs in but the wire colors are different on the coil packs? also the oxy sensor in the dump pipe is a black wire and in the wiring loom it's a white wire but they plug in like there ment to be. thats why i am trying to get hold a wiring diagram that covers this.

Thanx.

is this motor/loom/ecu/coilpack/ect from the same vehicle?

If so then as a #Guese# , they shoild still all plug in
if theres only one smal part of the loom to the coils, and its the only plug that will fit, then it must be the one

I think you also need to change the pistons

the 16v pistons are different. But maybe the valves also clear the original 8v pistons...
and how about the compression? i think the cambersize in the head is different.

I recently took apart a Eclipse Turbo engine (the same as a VR4) because it had spun a bearing
And was looking at a old starion engine to see if i could combine some parts to get one good engine again.

Look at the difference here:

Here's also a pic of a 16v head

From what i've seen you can put the 16v pistons in the starion shortblok and mount the 16v head

you would also need to change all the cambelt stuff on the front
