Timing belt install

Post by Lunacy »

So time has come to do the timing belt.
No problem with the cams, dowels pointing up and marks all lined up horizontally.
Have eliminated balance shafts so lower pulley lined up on mark anyway.
Which brings me to the crank pulley. Im using a 4g61 spacer rather than the balance shaft pulley. Which means i have no mark to line up with the one on the timing cover.
Is it ok just to make sure piston number 1 is at the top of the compression stroke, or do i need it more accurate? And if so how could i go about this? Any help appreciated

You should still have the timing plate which goes in between of the balance shaft belt pulley (the 4g61 spacer in your case) and the main timing belt pulley installed, and that should give you the timing mark for TDC on the crank?
